Depending how far back u wanna take this, it could either mean the quote taken from a

shocked and distraught live radio announcer's reaction to being an unanticipated eyewitness to the fiery crash of the Hindenburg Zeppelin (pre "Led" :) in 1937 -or-

it could point to a number of comic references made by characters in recent Cartoons~

But the Hindenburg event would likely be where the phrase originated.
