No Eastern European countries were 'occupied' by the Soviet Union (USSR) in 1988. All Eastern Europe countries had their own independent governments.
The following Eastern European countries were members of the Warsaw Pact, which means they were allies of the USSR and followed an economic and foreign policy similar to the USSR:
Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia, German Democratic Republic, Hungary, Poland and Romania.
However, some current Eastern European countries were states within the Soviet Union and whose authority was sublimated to Russia. These include: Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Belarus, Ukraine, and Moldova.
A group of communistic countries, under the rule of the Soviet Union, that were located in Europe and blocked the Soviet Union from European attacks.
Not all All Eastern European Countries were part of the Soviet Union (USSR) of them. The following European countries were part of the USSR before its disintegration in 1992: Russia, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Belarus, Ukraine, Moldova. Plus the three Caucasus countries which are sometimes considered part of Europe: Armenia, Georgia, Azerbaijan.
The Former Soviet Union
No. The now defunct Soviet Union consisted of many countries that spread from the east of Europe to the east of Asia. Some of the countries in eastern Europe were part of what was known as the Soviet bloc, but not part of the Soviet Union. This would have included countries like Poland, Romania and Bulgaria, amongst others. Some of the eastern European countries, that now have their independence, like Lithuania, Lativa and Estonia, were part of the Soviet Union.
They staged a revolution against Gorbachev's regime.
The European Union was founded by Western European countries while Eastern European countries were still occupied by the Soviet Union.
Ukraine is the largest of the European countries that were part of the Soviet Union.
