Federation usually refers to the coming together in unity of a number of previously disparate parts. For example, when Australia became a Federation, its six colonies joined together to become one nation.
One way to think about it is as a confederation that was forced instead of voluntary. The other way to think about it is that a federation is a group of empowered states or communities, that usually adopt a constitution or in other words, it's a group of states that follow some rules together, but also create some limited rules by themselves that do not go against the group rules. The United States of America can be considered a federation.
A group of countries or states that have become united under a central governing body. As long as the countries remain part of the federation, they must abide by the central government's laws. But each component retains exclusive jurisdiction over some areas. The United States, Canada, Australia and Switzerland are all federations.
All very true, but we here in Canada are a Confederation. We're special you see, lol.
Federalism works toward limited government because it divides the power between the state government and the national government.
The four models of federalism are command federalism, dual federalism, functional federalism and cooperative federalism. The United States uses the dual federalism model.
The three eras of federalism are dual federalism (layer cake), cooperative federalism (marble), and new federalism.
1, dual federalism. 2 cooperative federalism. 3 creative federalism. 4 new federalism.
