Regular Service Keeps Your Transmission on the Road… Servicing your car’s automatic transmission regularly can dramatically extend its life. That’s because the oil — or ATF — does more than just lubricate: It also helps drive the transmission. Damage to the fluid, such as oxidation and shear, will reduce its holding power. This allows the transmission to slip and overheat, and quickly cause it to fail. A complete fluid exchange service, performed annually, can add years to your transmission’s life. For Example GMC say's Automatic Transmission Fluid and Filter Replacement Interval:
Every 100000 miles unless the vehicle is mainly driven under one or more of these conditions:
1) In heavy city traffic where the outside temperature regularly reaches 90 F (32 C) or higher.
2) In hilly or mountainous terrain.
3) When doing frequent trailering. Also consider a second transmission filter [http://emergingent.com/subpage1Magnefine.htm The Magnefine Filter System] as well. Good Luck and Remember.

ATF+4 is required. Any other types can and will cause shifting issues.
Low fluid, Trans computer that needs a software flash at the dealer, failing trans, etc
might be vacuum linkage, maybe low on trans fluid, computer
There are several things that can cause shifting problems in your 1989 Chevrolet Blazer transmission. The most common cause of shifting problems is a lack of transmission fluid. Broken shifting forks can also cause transmission shifting problems.
Delayed shifting is because the transmission fluid is not warm enough to move through the internals of the transmission. You may need a transmission service,,,,,fluid change, new filter, etc. Transmission Fluid degrades with age.
Yes, overfilling can cause the fluid to aerate which can cause leaks and hard shifting.
check your trans fluid levels, they are possibly low. there should be a dipper (or dipstick) in the engine bay, when car is turned off, on level ground, remove dipper, wipe clean, & re dip, then check, there wil be indicating markers on the bottom of it put in new fluid. check the owners manual for the recommended fluid, & use that, usually it will be a standard ATF (auto trans fluid) it may have a trans filter also. not sure where the filter will live if it has one.
It may cause seals to fail and fluid to leak from the vent on the trans case. It may also cause converter/pump failure.
no, check your fluid levels.
If you mean low oil or fluid in the transmission, then YES, it will lead to shifting problems. Low engine oil will not affect shifting.
best case senario, low trans fluid. worse case senario bad transmission.
Normally no, but It is possible, Top the fluid level off, an see if the problem goes away.
