i am not sure, but snakes are usually regarded as something vile or a bad luck. don't pay any attention to that. the old wives tell came about because many people were uneducated and say if like... a neighbor found a snake in the house, 3 wks later came down with the flu or appendicitis, this had to be the reason for it.
