We Adopted “Zeus” aka:Moose from [North Texas Weimaraner Rescue] when he was 18 months old in 1998.

Zeus lived Incredible long life & probably would have lived even longer, but due to him getting 100’s of these non cancerous cysts between the size of a marble to Grapefruit size! the largest one Larger than a Grapefruit had pushed into Nerves that paralyzed him from use of his rear legs. The Vet suggested & we agreed that his age of SEVENTEEN YEARS & EIGHT MONTHS OLD, [17.8 years old] Zeus had lived a Wonderful Life. So he was put to sleep. At the this time I believe Zeus was the oldest living of his breed! We have had 2 more Weimaraner Dogs, the 2nd “Bleu” & our current only 8 months old “ZEN” ☯️

I read that Weimaraners live to about 12 years. The oldest known in Australia was 18.

I Live in Santa Barbara, CA. My Weimaraner 'Buddy' will be 17 this year. His eyesight has greatly diminished and he's become a little weak in the hips - however he still runs up and down the stairs and jumps and spins at meal time. He's a constant companion. I love this dog!

Rick from NC: This is great to know. My Weimaraner, Zoe, is 14. She's the same way, slower, has just started getting cataracts, had some random hip weakness. Yet, at meal time, she jumps and runs like she used to. Noticed she cannot jump into the cargo compartment in my car as she used to.

She's such a great companion and I was worried reading in a lot of publications that the average age is 10 years for the breed. Glad to know there are many that live much longer.

Zoe has been on a prescription, hypoallergenic diet for many years now. I never, ever gave her anything but dry dog food. She was crate trained and at 4 months she could go from the time I left from work until lunch without peeing. I always went home at lunch to walk her.

Because of the risk for bloat, I feed her twice a day. One cup food in the morning, and two-cups at night with a glucosamine pill. Because of her Allergies, I give her 50 mgs of amitriptyline twice daily.

Because I read where the average female Weim weights 70 lbs, I have always made sure she is never above that.

David from UK: Today we put our belouved Otto to sleep, he was 15-1/2 years old, he had developed breathing difficulties which were getting progressively worse to the point that he appeared to be forcing every breath. Up until a few weeks ago he had lived a normal healthy life having two walks a day. A sad day indeed (xmas eve)

My Weim Moorea is at least 16, I don’t have her exact birthday but I adopted her over 11 years ago and the previous family had her for at least 5 years. She still has energy to go on 2 mi walks every day as long as it’s not too hot out and actually still counter Surfing for food 🤣 she jumped up and took down an entire left over Pizza one night when I was gone…. something she had not done in years. She has a few non cancerous cysts, one the size of a Baseball under her left front leg. Her back legs are weaker than they used to be and can’t jump up in the cargo area of my SUv anymore but she can get up a short flight stairs relatively easily. She’s my amazing “old” lady (as I call her) and is just the sweetest companion ever. Her appetite is still going strong although things upset her stomach much easier now, so I give her multiple small meals a day and sometimes mix in pumpkin to her food. I hope a get a couple more years with her.
