What is wrong with a 1991 Mazda 626 that is jerking in 1st 2nd 3rd and 4th gear and stalls when the RPMs get low?

This just happened to my 91 mx6. Wouldn't run with any power. Would only run at higher rpm. Mine turned out to be the rubber Accordion air intake assembly. Over time the rubber becomes brittle and breaks which allows outside air to be drawn in. The mechanic told me this air is not metered by the mass flow meter, hence the computer can't calculate the correct amount of gas. Mine was broke on the accordion ribs. This is made to flex as the engine torques. He tested it with a piece of Duct Tape over the open broken area, then ordered the assembly. About $70 for the part, another $70 for diagnose and install. Of course duct tape may do the job.
