Yes the door panel must be removed to gain access to the speakers. Just replace them It will sound better.
Take door panel off then it's as easy as 1-2-3
pop the cover take 4 screws out & put your new 1 in
I am in the process of replacing the factory speakers in my wife's 2002 Liberty. Unfortunately, the deck does not drive the speakers, there are small amps in each of the front door speakers. Therefore, you cannot replace them with aftermarket speakers unless you replace the deck as well. The other option is to replace them, add an amp and rewire the entire system. This is not what I bargained for when I started this project but in the end it will be a lot better system then the factory system.
Remove the plastic head liner panel (roof)Take out the plastic side storage bins in the backseat (sides) Then the rear window plastic side plates can be removed. Factory 4x6's.
For the front speakers your gonna have to take the door panels off to get to all the wiring and everything and for the back ones you should just be able to take the plastic cover off and replace them
I believe In the silverado door panel the steel mesh that surrounds the speakers should easily pop out with a flat head screw driver, then if you unscrew the four screws around the speaker you can drop them out threw the hole to work or replace them.
I replaced my rear speakers in my 05 Silverado on a cool morning. I wiggled my hand in behind the trim to loosten the snaps and ended up cracking the cover in a few places. I want to replace this piece but I can not find it on the net anywhere. Any ideas?
You have to take the back seat out, and then remove the trim panels, you also might have to remove some of the headliner in the back to get the trim off, then you can get to the rear speakers, its one hell of a job
