5/16 in bolt. use a 1/2 inch wrench.
there should be 3 or 4 bolts that hold pulley on, just remove these bolts a pulley should come off. but remove belt first ! if pulley keeps turning while removing bolts. you can hold it stationary with a scredriver or similar.
put the belt back on and hold the pully with your hand while losing the bolts with a wrinch
my 93 with a 2.5 uses 3 bolts to hold pulley on the pump
To remove the water pump, first, make sure engine is cool and no pressure in the system, remove the belt. Then hold the pump pulley tightly and remove the 4 10mm bolts that hold on the pulley. Tap the pulley to remove. Then remove the 5 5/16 (or 8mm) bolts that hold the pump. Be sure a drain pan is under the car to catch the coolant. Clean the mounting surface of old gaskets. Install new pump, pulley, belt, and bleed the system
I have changed the water pump on several engines that use that pump, and I never needed or used a clamp. The only possible use that comes to mind would be to clamp on the pulley to keep it from turning so the bolts that hold the pulley on could be taken out. You have to take the pulley off to get to the bolts that hold the water pump in place. The replacement pumps I used did not come with a new pulley so the old one had to be reused.

start with the serpentine belt still on to hold the pulley while you loosen the four small bolts on the front. If it still turns, wedge a flat bar or wrench handle across two bolt heads to hold it still.
pully wheel should come off with fan when you remove 4 bolts that hold fan to waterpump
36 mm wrench, and a spanner to hold the pulley. Turn to the left.
According to the chilton manual the 5 water pump bolts torque to 89 inch pounds. The four bolts that hold the water pump pulley torque to 18 foot pounds.
Remove belt than 4 bolts for pulley than 5 or 6 screws hold the pump to the timing cover.its the ony pulley with 4 bolts holding it on,its an easy job.
If you are just removing the pulley, Then just remove the bolts that hold it on being sure to remove the bolt that is in the middle of the pulley too. Then take a hammer and knock it off.
