In 1945 Berlin was invaded by Soviet forces from the East and Allies occupied the majority of West Germany so Hitler knew defeat was inevitable. He shot himself and commanding officers surrendered so the whole army was in disarray therefore they gave up before gaining any more casualties.

Later on in the Pacific the U.S.A developed the first atomic bomb which was dropped on Hiroshima and then Nagasaki the day after. Japan which suffered greatly decided to surrender as they did not want the destruction of any other major city.

Many events led up to the ending of World War Two, but one of the most significant was the American powers committing to the Allied cause. Then a desperate Germany organised one last push forward on the Western Front, and were driven back by Allied forces. This was quickly followed by Hitler and his wife's suicide, causing a loss in all momentum and spirits of the Nazi troops. Finally, the Germans were defeated in 1945.

Any inaccuracy in this summary is entirely accidental. As it was retrieved from my own memory it may not be accurate. If any of the wording or information is offensive to you or any other person, I earnestly apologise and assure you it was not deliberate.

The answer to this question is almost impossible to pinpoint mainly because there were so many factors that came into play in the final months of World War II. Many believe that the German defeat at Stalingrad was one of the main causes of the German surrender during the war, others claim it was the American involvement on the western frontier. You also have to remember that even though Germany surrendered the war was still raging in the Pacific. It wasn't until the bombing of both Hiroshima and Nagasaki that you had the unconditional surrender of the Japanese, putting an end to the war altogether.
