As per Sikh tradition, Guru Nanak was born in the year 1469 A.D. He was from the beginning inclined towards religious matters. Since then and even today the population of India is majority of them are followers of Hinduism and distant second are followers of Islam. As Guru Nanak grew up he conversed with religious men from different backgrounds. At the age of 30, in the year 1499 A.D while going to his daily bath in the stream which went through his village, he disappeared for 3 days. When he reappeared, he would answer the same for any question posed in front of him, " There is no Hindu, there is no Muslim. Then whose path shall I follow? I shall follow God's Path." Thus, he began preaching.

The above statement given by Guru Nanak Dev Ji gets two interpretations.

First,

When Guru Nanak said 'There is no Hindu, there is no Muslim..... "

Here the understanding is that Guru Nanak signifies the Unity of Human and says that the labels which people apply on themselves of various religions and religious rituals have no real effect, because when seen from Absolute standpoint, there is only One God and thus to have any idea that there is separate God for Muslims, or Hindus or even for that matter Christians or Jews or Buddhists mean nothing as there is only the One.

Second,

When Guru Nanak Dev Ji said " There is no Hindus, there is no Muslims....."

Here the second interpretation is that, the people who called themselves Hindus or Muslims were so out of the teachings and instruction provided by Vedas or Koran respectively that they did not fit the definition of calling themselves as Hindus or Muslims as their ways of life was too much into rituals practices, superstitions, just reading and reciting Holy Scripture but with no understanding.

Thus Guru Nanak Dev Ji began his teachings.

Where did the Sikhism religion begin?

AnswerWhen Guru Nanak Dev ji had eloped in water from Sultanpur Lodhi. a prophet called Varn Devta brought Guru Nanak before Akal Purkh (God) and when Guru Nanak asked Akal Purkh the reasons for all Devtas standing outside the door of Akal Purkh palace, then Akal Purkh told Guru Nanak that Devtas standing outside have changed the men and women by ammending their faces, cutting of hairs and beards. Now you Guru Nanak I am blessing with you power, which I have never given to anybody before and you create a religion, which should keep the men and women in the same shape as is my creativeness. None of ur disciple will cut hair and beards, moustache etc.He/she will remain intact as I have made and they will not worship anybody else except myself the ALL MIGHTY. When Guru Nanak and his friend Mardana went to bathe in the river, Guru Nanak mysteriously dissappeared! Mardana went home to tell everybody, because he thought he'd drowned.3 days later he reappeared, claiming he'd had a vision from God. When he returned he started his own religion, Sikhism, where he thought everyone should be treated fairly.

Why was Guru Tegh Bahadur executed?

Guru Tegh Bahadur obtained shaheedi because Guru Sahib felt that everyone should have religious freedom, to start off the Mughal Empire wanted a land where everyone would become a Muslim, they decided to convert the Brahmins(Priests/ high caste people), because they were considered the most sacred in all of India, These Brahmins-lead by Kirpa Ram later Kirpa Singh after taking Amrit- went to Guru Tegh Bahadur because Guru Sahib was the most sacred in the universe, and they asked him to save them from having to convert, Guru Ji said to them"Go, tell them that if your Guru, Guru Tegh Bahadur converts to Islam then we will do so as well." Then Aurangzeb was being over fanatic that if Guru Sahib was to convert, then they would get not only Hindus, but also Sikhs, He arrested Guru Tegh Bahadur with 3 other Sikhs, Bhai Mati Das, Bhai Sati Das, and Bhai Dyala Ji, These 3 Sikhs obtained shaheedi in front of Guru Ji's eyes, and Guru Sahib blessed them, and all 3 were asked the same question"Do you desire to Convert to Islam, or be killed?", all 3 answered to get martyred. And Guru Tegh Bahadur was asked the same question and was beheaded, while focusing on Waheguru. And Guru Gobind Singh Ji is the next Sikh guru!

How is Guru Nanak related to fair trade?

Well, he was a very fair man as he made everyone sit down in a temple showing that everyone is equal. So when it came to trade he would not cheat and always tell the truth, and he was very fair! :)

What did Guru Nanak start to show that everyone is equal?

Guru Nanak gave a bunch of people a bar of chocolate containing six slabs to share between 150 people. He then stated "you are all equal, and so is that chocolate. If you are wise enough you will split it equally so you all get a fair amount. You are all the same but different aswell. No one should be selfish nor timid, take your share and it only can be fair." All of the 150 people took their bit of chocolate and ate it. Guru then said " you may still be hungry but that should fill every ones needs".

What do think guru nanak clothes tell you about his belief about god?

Guru Nanak's clothes has no relation to his belief about God. Whatever the picture / Photos of Guru Nanak and other Guru Ji's are there at present, these are not real. These are based on the imagination of Painter. ( most of current day pictures are based on the Shobha singh's imagination of Sikh Gurus. Shobha Singh was a very prominent Punjabi painter. ). Any Sikh Guru ji's belief is reflected only through the Gurbani, No where else. Answer 2. Water can only merge with water. If we were to add oil to water, they will not merge as they are different. To become one with one, both substances have to be identical in nature, even being same may not be precise. No matter how much a little kid look at a young man, a kid would never understand the passion of youth, the zeal of youth. Only when that kid himself/herself become a young man/woman that he/she would realize what is it to be young, what is youth. No matter how much a young person look at the old man, he would not understand the pain and difficulties of being old. Though he can see the old man everyday. Only when he himself become old that he would know what is it to be being old. In the same way, only he or she can know a saint who himself/herself is saint. By External appearance one can only see the person, you can say whether the person is male or female, or how old the person is but who that person is and what that person is, that can only be known once you hear that person talk. Hence, for a Sikh, it does not matter what Sikh Guru dressed liked or where they went, what is more important is what they said. Therefore, it the Guru's Bani Sikh is interested in not the appearance. No wonder Sikhs call their Guru," Shabad Guru". Thus, only when you follow Gurbani that you would know what the beliefs are of Sikh Gurus. Thank You.
