At its greatest, the Islamic Empire stretched from Spain in the west to the borders of China in the east. Today, there are many Islamic countries, and over 1,300 million Muslims in the world.

There have been over 25 different Islamic Empires in history, so increased clarity would be helpful here. However, the largest Islamic Empire in history was the Umayyad Empire in the year 720 C.E. In that year the Empire was roughly 11,100,000 km² (4,285,734 sq mi) and spread across North Africa and the Middle East from Spain and Morocco in the west to Pakistan and Turkmenistan in the east.
