Basically its just a "contest" between America and Soviet Union.... they started a race to see who made the most weapons... but its crazy because a war never actually broke out!! Funny, huh?

^^That didn't really answer the question... war DID break out, in Vietnam, Korea, and Afghanistan, all "proxy wars" of the cold war between the USSR and the USA. But the political impact was that it lead to the collapse of the Soviet Union, which was communist, and became democratic post-cold war.

The advancement of military technology; Example(s): the non-cold war WW2 M4 Sherman tank gave way to the Cold War M46, M47, and M48 PATTON tanks, which evolved into the M60 Series "Combat" Tank (the US Army's first MBT-Main Battle Tank); which evolved into today's M1 Abrams MBT. The M1 Abrams was designed, built, and fielded during the cold war in the 1980's.
