General Burgoyne of the British had a brilliant plan to control the Hudson River. By controlling this river the British would be able to cut off all trade going in or out of America. By owning the Hudson the British would have the upper hand because not only did this river regulate trade. It also sent troops, supplies, and news of the Revolution threw out different Colonies. Burgoynes plan was to march 3 armies of British regulars to march into Albany, New York from different directions, and kill the Patriots who stood in the way of the river. However this was not a one man job, this was when Burgoyne needed help from General Howe. Although Burgoynes plan was flawless, General Howe refused to help because King George III want to capture Philadelphia. On July of 1777 Howe battled in Americans at Brandywine, and Germantown claiming Philadelphia, and then settling down there for the winter. Then St.Leger who was supposed to run the 2 army of men could not go to Albany because on his way there he was beat by Benedict Arnold at Fort Stanwix., leaving Burgoyne to march to Albany with only 1 army. As he traveled threw the woods Arnold warned his fellow Patriots of Burgoynes plans which resulted in them cutting down trees and putting obstacles in his way. After finally getting past the hardships Burgoyne was able to claim For Ticonderoga, while in the process of losing 1,000 British men. But the Green Mountain boys also rushed to New York to help the Colonist who were there. Finally when Burgoyne meet the Colonist there he was surrounded and soon enough surrendered in October 17 1777. Due to these outstanding Victories it convinced the French to join in the battle against the British. At first the French were hesitant fearful of fighting against the worlds best navy. However after this victory the French were able to successfully without a doubt sign the alliance over. Becoming America's first official Alliance. Then once the French joined many other European Nations became allies with America Nations such as Spain,Netherlands,Prussia,and Poland. By having these alliances we were able to take out loans to get needed supplies, soldiers, support, and help declare that we are a Nation. This was the Turning Point of the Revolution.
