if it sounds like growling it is a wheel bearing.

SOUNDS LIKE THE WARE INDICATOR ON THE PADS CUTTING INTO THE ROTORS. CHANGE THE PADS, MIGHT BE A WHEEL BEARNG GOING BAD
I had the same type noise in my 2002 Mountaineer. I pulled the panel of on the rear drivers side and found the device that opens and closes the heat or air vent was not getting to the position it needed to be. constant recycle. Since I live in Florida I disabled the device and positioned the vent to air only. No noise and its cool now.
