Most mechanics refer a "Cracked head" as a Cracked cylinder head, This is usually repairable, but expensive and MUST be repaired. A Cracked Block means that the engine block is cracked and MUST be replaced. This is EXTREMELY expensive But ENTIRELY necessary. Any additional strain being cause by WOT or Heavy loads can destroy the engine. It is STRONGLY Advised you do not drive the vehicle in any of these conditions. This condition is rare on Ford Tauri with the "Vulcan" engine due to its Cast Iron Block, however if the vehicle has been abused severely it is not entirely uncommon. You should check fluids in the least annually and make sure the vehicle doesn't overheat. Cracked heads are also rare especially on the "Vulcan" power plant, However, Again, If severely abused not entirely uncommon. I've seen this occur on vehicles that were loaned out to careless teens that took the vehicle for spins and returned the vehicle is poor almost destroyed (engine-wise) condition due to their carelessness, It is not entirely uncommon to find a vehicle with cracked heads or blocks due to careless teenagers doing burnouts or doughnuts. If your block is cracked, You might as well buy a new engine. The cost with labor will so extensive you would be better to start anew.
A cracked block means that the engine itself is cracked. A blown head-gasket means that the gasket between the engine and the head has blown. Either can be caused by overheating the engine. When an engine overheats the head can warp causing the head-gasket to give out. In some engines the heat cracks the block. If the block is cracked, it's over. If the head-gasket is blown you can always machine the head surface and put it all back together.
351 modified has a 400 big block housing where the Clevelnd does not.
If you suspect the head and/or the block, have them "magnafuxed" by a machine shop. On the other hand, as you're pulling it apart, check the head gasket and if it's shot, there is usually only the one problem.
Nothing at all. A long block is the complete engine. A short block is just the engine with no intake, exhaust, or accessories installed.
Is the B18C head Compatable with the B20 Block
how u know the block is really cracked
difference between cross section and block daigram
It has both. The difference between a long block and short block is whats on them. A short block is just that the Block with the pistons and crankshaft. A long block would be the short block with the heads and valve cover attached without any accessories attached.
