probably bad TPS, or IAC sensors
crankshaft sensor going.
throttle speed set screw is next to throttle linkage on driver side. Check for a vacuum leak first. I had the same problem on a 4.0 wrangler
see previous answers, but if it idles high it might be the Mass Airflow Sensor. if your car idles too high for too long and you keep driving it, you could burn out the transmission module (very expensive )
i have a 92 buick riviera that putters and chuggs when i accelarate but idles great
Year, make and model would help.
Replace the Fuel Filter. I had the same problem with my 87 Wrangler... For me it turned out to be fuel filter was clogged even though it was semi-new.
cause if its idling at zero rpm the motor is off ...
sounds like a bad transmission to me Try checking your spark plugs up front. Pull them out and make sure they are not gummed up. This happened to my fiencee's car not long ago. Oil was leaking in through a seal and cause the spark plug to gum up causing a bad start even though the car idles fine.
check your timing & up your idle a little
Rebuild it. If it's a 97, it must have close to 150k miles.
idles at 3000 will not go down 1993 grand prix gtp
My 1990 idles at about 850 and with the ac on 1100
