Automatic Transmission Fluid I have a Mazda Protege 5, 2003- with 32k miles. Mazda hand book telling me to use ATF-MV. The dealer ship is selling this for $ 8.00 a qut. can you recomend a general ATF brand that I could buy at at a local parts store for less $. Also do I have to do a transmission flush or can I just drain and remove the pan and change the filter? Thank you. Jerome
Buy BG Synchro Shift to use in your manual transmission; Mitsubishi highly recommends it to maintain smooth shifting. If Synchro Shift isn't available, any GL-4 transmission fluid of viscosity 75W90 is suitable. In the automatic transmission, use ATF+4 automatic transmission fluid.
There is only one type, ATF fluid. It's a universal fluid... You can buy Toyota ATF fluid from any auto online store (like www.toyotapartstore.com) or just buy Supertech ATF, Prestone ATF, they all do the same job. There are several grades but generally one superceeds another so you can't go far wrong. I've used both Toyota ATF and SuperTech ATF. This time, it's the Prestone ATF.
