try getting a repair manual from a Chevrolet dealership, or possibly from Canadian Tire or any kind of repair stores. The manuals should tell you everything you need to know to replace the heater core.
Haynes manuals are available at most auto parts stores. They give you pictures and instructions.

Are you in Alaska? What heater can you plug in that is not already connnected. A diesel preheater maybe.

You do not ,you replace it .
Just unhook the hoses from the heater core and put a tube are something in the middle of them and clamp them together.
You don't clean them - you replace them.
Remove the heater control valve and replace it.
