The camshaft pulley has a notch on the side of the teeth. You must line this notch up level with the top, front side of the cylinder head. (where the valve cover bolts on)

The 1994 Mitsubishi 3.0 liter engine timing marks can be found on the front main pulley. The timing marks will be scattered around the outside of the front main pulley.

No timing belt , the 2.4 liter 4 cylinder engine in a 2007 Hyundai Sonata has a timing CHAIN It actually has 2 timing chains One for the cams and one for a combination balance shaft box,oil pump, and sump screen. The box is the weak point of the engine and loves to disintegrate and is currently only available at the dealer for $1200.

According to www . motorcraft . com ( no spaces ) unless the engine compartment decal shows different The point gap is .027 inch The point dwell is 35 to 40 and The ignition timing is 6 degrees BTDC for 200 cubic inch ( 3.3 liter ) straight 6 cylinder engine

At least in the model year of 1971 the correct timing is set with the vacuum hose to the distrubutor disconected and the headlights on (not hi-beam) to 6 degrees... adjust dwell (point gap) before timing.

An engine does not go off-timing all by itself. If the timing chain fails, the engine would usually be too far off to run. If someone forgot to tighten the distributor hold down, the distributor would revolve counterclockwise until it got to a point where the engine would be very low on power.

ON MY 2.2 4CYLINDER ( 1999 ) YOU HAVE TO PULL THE TIMING CHAIN COVER TO SEE THE " TIMING MARKS " . ON THE CRANK SPROCKET IT IS A PUNCH MARK.....ON THE CAM SPROCKET IT IS A SMALL HOLE IN THE SPROCKET . BOTH MUST LINE UP WITH TABS ON THE CHAIN TENSIONER. THE REST OF THE TIMING IS DONE BY CRANK & CAM SENSORS AND THE COMPUTER.

Look a the emissions sticker under the hood of your car, it has the timing information there. Mine says disconnect the timing connector at the distributor and set timing to 0 degrees.then reconnect the timing connector I have a 4.3 vortec. After setting the timing you will have a check engine light, clear it by disconnecting the negative battery terminal or pull the ECM fuse for a few minutes.

Loosen the distributor hold down first. On most distributors turning clockwise will advance timing, CCW will retard timing. For V8s I like to set the timing like this: Advance timing a bit, then grab the throttle on the carb and rev the engine to full throttle. Keep repeating these 2 steps until the engine stumbles or pings when you rev it up. When you get to that point set the timing back just a touch, and rev it again to make sure you are at the point just before where it wants to stumble.

this sounds like a tuning problem either the fueling or egnition timing is wrong and the engine cannot progress past a point in rpm ..get the engine tuned.as it is too difficult to say what exactly what single item is causing the prob.with the info supplied.

www . motorcraft . com ( no spaces ) lists: 1968 Ford Mustang - 289 cubic inch V8 engine Ignition timing is ( 6 degrees BTDC ) Point gap is ( .021 ) Point dwell is ( 24 - 29 ) unless the engine compartment decal shows different

The 1997 Chevrolet express 7.4 liter engine should never have transmission fluid point into it. The engine holds 6.4 quarts of motor oil. The transmission holds nine quarts of transmission fluid.

Adjusting the timing of a 1994 Hyundai Sonata requires specialized timing tools and the knowledge to use them. You need to have a timing light which is connected to the battery and number one ignition wire. You also must have a jumper wire connected to the timing adjustment connector and ground it at the back of the engine. By starting the engine and holding the rpms to idle. Point the timing light at the distributor and make the necessary adjustments.

User Avatar

put the piston at top dear center and have the timing mark point to the 12 o clock position realitive to the engine. and assemble the chain

User Avatar

this is all a matter of opinion but from experienc it is a terribly unreliable engine. stay away if you can

lower front of the engine see it from under the car

It's an engine size, it means one cylinder can hold 4.4 liters of air at the lowest point of the stroke.

The timing belt effects your camshaft timing, and in some engines your ignition timing (if the distributor or crank trigger runs off a pulley driven by your timing belt). Directly, your timing belt has no effect on your shifting. However, variances in camshaft timing will make your engine run differently and that MAY effect at what point the transmission shifts.

Start the engine and point the timing light at the timing marks. The flashing timing light will cause the timing mark on the harmonic balancer appear to be stationary and aligned with the timing marker. It should be lined up with "10 BEFORE." If not, turn the distributor until it is. Turn off the engine and tighten down the distributor hold-down. Unhook the timing light.
