Abolitionist and untried murderer John Brown plotted and raided the Federal arsenal at Harper's Ferry. His goal of him and his 20 or so followers was to have firearms for a slave revolt he tried to create in late November of 1859. He was financed by New England abolitionists and Brown tried to recruit the Black scholar, Frederick Douglas into the plot. Douglas tried to convince Brown his revolution was a major blunder and refused to join it.
