Zachary Taylor may have a better name recognition because of his Presidency, but both Winfield Scott and Stephen Kearny are better known among Military Historians then "Old Rough and Ready" was. That is not intended as a "put-down" of Taylor at all, his service was commendable, but Kearny draws acclaim as the Father of the Cavalry and as an inovator and for leading from the front and Scott was the "Grand Old Man" of the US Army.

For Mexico it was Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna, General Mariano Arista, General Pedro de Ampudia and General Jose Maria Flores.
The Mexican Forces were lead by General Santa Anna and US Troops were under the command of Winfield Scott, Zachary Taylor and Stephen Kearny.

Brigadier General Sterling Price served as the US Army commander at the Taos revolt and at the final battle of the Mexican American War at Sant Cruz de Rosales and as a General Officer of the Confederate States of America during the US Civil War.

∙ 13y agoWinfield Scott was still on active duty when the Civil War began, but after creating the Anaconda Plan for the Union he stepped down. Sterling Price served as a General in both the US Army during the Mexican American War and the Confederate States Army.
