I just had the same problem on my son's 2001 cavalier. Two mechanics I spoke to said the 2001 Cavaliers are notorius for head gasket leaks. One of them said he would replace the head gasket for $650.00 if it also needed the head milled (leveled). I thought it was a good price because heard of other people that were charged $800.00 and $1000.00. I first made sure it was a head gasket leak or cracked block problem by putting a small plastic bottle under the water overflow tube and drove the car a few miles. Sure enough, i had lost about 1/2 gal of water and the small plastic bottle was empty. I had alredy checked that no water was leaking onto the ground under the engine previously. Still I wanted to be absolutely sure. I ran my jetta and held a crubled sheet of newspaper close to the exhaust pipe for 1 minute. I did the same for the Cavalier. The Cavalier with the whitish exhaust made the newspaper wet with drops of water showing on it, hwereas the jetta's newspaper was much dryer.

I was convinced it was either a head gasket leak or a cracked block letting coolant into the exhaust and the reason for my loss of coolant.

I then got on the internet and learned about KW block sealer which I bought for $9.00 at AutoZone. I figured it was worth a try. My neighbor who I have been talking to for 37 yrs about car problems said that he would be afraid the sealant would mess up his heater core or radiator. I decided to use the first can of KW according to the can's directions but I bypassed the heater core and the radiator. I was able to run it for 20 minutes without it over heating according to the can's directions. I waited 24 hours after draining it and leaving the filler cap off according to the KW can's directions. I tested it by driving it with water for about 3 miles and I lost about 1/2 gallon. It didn't work.

I bought another can of KW block sealer for $9.00. i un byppassed the radiator but not the heater core. I shook the can of KW vigorously and empted it into the coolant filler place since I was already low about a half gallon. There was no anti-freeze in the Cavalier for the past month , only water. I topped it off with water. I drove it a few miles. The next time I drove it, I figured I better top it off with water again otherwise I mite overheat. To my surprise it was still filled to the top! I drove it again for several miles and noticed the temp. stayed stedy at a bit less than 195 degrees F. I checked the water level again and it was still topped off. I decided to take it on a 15 mile trip on the highway always having 5 gallons of water in the back seat just in case. today my son took it to work. I'll let you know.

Losing water but you see no leak?

Probably burning it out the exhaust pipe from a bad head gasket or a cracked head or both. Any trace of coolant in the oil?

Why is your radiator losing coolant in your 1989 Mercury Sable?

either your radiator is leaking, head gaskit is leaking if it's your head gaskit leaking you will have water in your oil or water coming out your exhaust pipe,or you might have a freeze plug going bad.

Why would coolant be leaking from the exhaust pipe?

That's exactly what it is, water. The products of combustion are water and carbon dioxide. While the exhaust stays hot the water comes out as high temperature steam, usually you don't even notice it. When the exhaust pipe and/or outside temperature is cold enough the exhaust will cool and some of the water vapor will condense into steam and possibly even water that drips from a weep hole in the muffler. If you're seeing a little water drip from the muffler, everything is working as designed.

What is the best product to stop a coolant leak 2000 Dodge Dakota with 30000 miles is losing a quart of coolant every thousand miles through the exhust-no visible coolant and no coolant in oil?

it sounds like a cracked head or a bad gasket from water port to exhaust port it wouldn't get water in your oil if this is the case. The best repair is to fix it right. Stop leak can cause more harm than good.

What would cause water condensation to come from the muffler when the vehible is not losing coolant or overheating and there is no water in the oil?

is there any formation of aquaregia inside a vehicle muffler..? any answers..!! I assume you mean from the tail pipe. Water is a bi-product of combustion & is expelled with the exhaust. -LubeExpert

Detroit 8v92 series throwing water from exhaust?

Water or coolant??If it is water dont worry, a vehicle can do that for quite a while after starting, it's just condensation. If it's coolant your head gasket is leaking and will need ot be replaced, exhaust will be white smoky and sweet smelling.

Water is coming out of my tailpipe can it be my water pump going bad?

Water from your tailpipe could just be condensation, it is caused by a difference between the exhaust temperature and the surrounding air plus the presence of humidity. If it is coolant ( smells sweet )and you are losing coolant from your radiator you probably have a bad head gasket. Overheating can cause a head gasket to blow which can be caused by a bad water pump so in a roundabout way yes.

Why would anti freeze leak from exhaust pipe?

A blown head gasket could allow coolant to enter the combustion chamber from the water jacket. The coolant probably is running out the exhaust on first start-up. More often, you will notice the coolant being pumped out of the overflow as the exhaust gas pressurizes the coolant. You should look for this symptom when the engine warms up. Coolant in the exhaust on start-up and then the coolant overpressure overflow from the expansion tank or radiator happening together is almost sure indication of the head gasket failure.

Is it normal for water to come out the exhaust when its cold?

yes. Its normal. Only be worried if you find yourself having to fill up the water coolant under the bonnet / hood every week. Then you may find your head gasket has failed. If you are not losing engine coolant ignore it. Its natural for all petrol cars to produce h2o as part of the combustion process.

Why do you have water dripping out of 87 CBR1000F muffler when you stop the bike not really using up coolant and no water in the oil mufflers are also not the lowest point in exhaust?

The water you see comming from the exhaust is condensation. A by product of the combustion process is water and until the exhaust system gets hot enough to maintain the water in the exhaust in a gaseous state it will condense (fall out of the exhaust stream) in the exhaust system. After the engine gets warm and heats up the exhaust system the water does not condense in the exhaust system anymore and is dirrected into the atmosphere. P.K.

Your exhaust emits white smoke and drops of water even when engine warms up but no loss of coolant or overheating?

If there is no overheating or loss of coolant, most likely it is due to condensation in the exhaust system (pretty normal in cool or rainy weather).

Losing water from radiator no leaks?

Check for extra white color in the exhaust, could be a ruptured head-gasket.
