The King passed the Intolerable Acts or Coercive Acts in order to keep the colonies, mainly Massachusetts, loyal and civilized. The Coercive Acts included: the Riot Act, closing the Boston harbor, disbanding the current government, sending crimes performed by officials to England for trial, as well as limiting the Patriots assemblies.

The British had just lost alot of money off of the French-Indian War. They needed money to pay for their expenses. So they decided to tax the colonist.

ANSWER:

The Intolerable Acts were passed by Parliament in 1774. This was done to punish Massachusetts, and restore imperial authority. This was because on December 16, 1773, a group of men dressed as Indians, boarded the English ship called the Dartmouth. Then, the men dumped 342 chests of tea into the Boston Harbor.
