Because it is. The country was settled by English and European settlers. They brought with them their culture and world views. Even the maps made were euro centric until recently. If you look you will notice in old world maps that North America and Europe are larger in land size than South America and Africa That is no mistake, it is a world view. The white American views of the world discounts the views of people of color and the accomplishments that they have made in the history of the country.
