check the bearings inside steering column for wear
Answercheck the bearings inside steering column for wear
Your steering column is supported by 2 or more bolts behind the plastic covering. They are probably loose. Remove the plastic trim to get at these bolts.
Check lower control arm or steering knuckle bolt is loose.
Hello....I don't have the slightest idea. The answer above may be correct. I don't know how I ended up on this persons account when I accidentally answered a question without logging in. Too very strange. I get this user ID with all these weird questions and all these answers that I have never answered.
I tried contacting these people with no luck. There is no contact address.
Maybe you can correct this.
I have the same problem with a vehicle here. I think it's a bad wheel damaged by a large pot hole. not sure though.
What kind of 'rattle' are you trying to describe? Is it simply 'annoying?' Does the wheel itself feel 'loose?' It could be something as simple as a loose wire that runs inside the column up to loose steering linkage. If you have any doubts as to the seriousness, get it to a shop ASAP!
unfortunaltely not. I am on my 3rd column and motor in less than 5000km in my 2010 balt. its the plastic gears in the column they wear out and make that rattle noise. although jtek has manufactured a better column, it still has same issues as evident in my 2010.
It could be several things. I'll start with the obvious. Warped or badly worn brake rotors, bad tires, bent suspension components.
Rattle.
get the steering parts checked out along with the front struts.
poor GM engineering! All these impalas do this at some point, most within a year! You can ignore it! The dealership has a lubrication bandaid but it is expensive and does not last long. It treats the symptom, it is not a cure to the root problem that has no real solution!!!
My 2001 Tahoe did the same thing. Everytime I hit rough road, speed bumps, or even a tight turn, I would hear a rattle in front and a vibration in the steering wheel. I asked a mechanic at Tires Plus to look at it and he said the steering column shaft was the culprit. $125 later (which included labor), problem was solved.
check power steering fluid and pumps, rattle could be anything from exhaust fittings to in the dashboard, so would need to take to a garage.
If its chain driven, Could be the timing chain tensioner! Does it also have a rattle driving the vehicle at around 2000 R.P.M?
The possessive form for "the rattle of the snake" is the snake's rattle.
YOUR FRONT ROTORS ARE WARPED. YOU NEED A BRAKE JOB.
If a car makes noise when turning the tie rod can be worn. Tie rods allow a vehicle to turn, when they fail the steering wheel will knock and rattle making all kinds of noises.
