Check antifreeze levels. If too little coolant is circulating in system, the lack of heat is one of the first symptoms. If car is overheating, but full of coolant, check the water pump.

Or is it a *fan* problem?

Are you getting no HEAT, or getting no FAN? If it's the fan, check the resistor and relay (both on the firewall next to the blower motor housing-torwards the center of the car (on my 85 Cavy Vert).

You have to take out the whole heater and air condiasioning system out and replace the new heater core in. How do you get warmer air to Cherokee heater?

Air flows through the heater core to warm it up. Assuming the heater core is circulating water from the radiator, the problem is usually with the blend doors. These doors regulate air flow through the heater core and when they break, they usually block the input into the heater core and kill the heat. Check heatertreater.net for diagnostic information and an inexpensive fix.
