We have recently had this problem fixedon our 1999 1.4 Polo. Its my wife car and the car would drive fine for 95% of the time but when she slowed down at a junction or traffic lights it would suddenly cut out. It would restart immediately and continue to drive ok. Some days it wouldn't cut out at all and some days it would cut of 5 times.
We took it to a garage and they found 2 pipes blocked. Since the pipes where changed it has not cut out at all, however it idles very high, about 1500 revs, so they have got to have another look.
Good Luck
Dave
I had this same problem before with my Ibiza (same car different name). Is it when you clutch & break at the same time? Be careful clutching & breaking going around corners because you loose the Power Steering too. I never got mine fixed but I think its the airflow meter. One friend has the problem & diagnostics told her nothing. Another payed 800 to get it fixed. Common problem.
