there were countries in Europe (like Spain and other surrounding countries) who were exploring new lands and the last one that the europeans came across was Africa. and because of the skin color difference (which isn't because of anything other then our sun exposure!) they didn't really feel like those people were actually human. the Europeans had taken 10 people back to Europe and sold them to people to work for them.

Slavery, though still existing in a variety of ways, was a common, global practice when the colonists arrived. Economics is one reason: the colonists actually DID believe that African Blacks are the best workforce for picking cotton, tobacco and sugar cane. And the African tribal leaders were offering this free workforce at an insanely cheap price.

The reason why they had slavery was because they were rich and to lazy to do things them selves. And they thought why waste their riches on them, so they got very little food and got abused very often. Slavery is still happening in some places, which is totally unacceptable, If there was something i could do to help i would try the best i can. Anyways, so basically they had slaves because they didn't want to get up and do hard things.

Money and Greed

Some people say it was indirectly because of Eli Whitney. Previous to his invention of the cotton gin, cotton was too labor intensive to create much of a profit. After the invention of the gin, cotton could be processed so easily that it became highly profitable. The more profit involved, the more cotton land owners wanted to grow. In the conditions of the Southern climate, there was much more of the year open to farming. With slave labor the profit margin grew enormously. Many of the farmers turned a blind eye to human rights in order to multiply their income.
