Squeal alternator in 1996 Dodge Grand Caravan?

Very often it is not the alternator, but the belt that squeals. This can be checked by rubbing a little soap on the belt, if the squeal goes away, you know it's the belt. The belt may squeal for a number of reasons: the belt is new, the belt is old, the belt tension is too tight or loose, the belt is cold (the squeal goes away on it's own when it warms up). Some belts just squeal for no discernable reason, but there are 'belt dressing' sprays available for sale that sometimes help. Always check the belt before spending a bunch of money on a new alternator that may not be needed.

What is the loud noise when breaking?

Probably the brake pads. These squeal loudly to warn the driver of impending pad erosion and urgent replacement of the same. If you continue without replacing them the squeal will get louder and eventually the brake disc (or rotor) will get damaged.

Could be inferior brake pads or glazed brake rotors. If the new pads were installed without machining or replacing the rotors that could also cause brake squeal.

Why would the alternator belt squeal on a 93 Plymouth Laser 20L non-turbo despite the fact that the belt is new and it is tight and the alternator is new?

Your alternator did it come with a pulley installed ? Or did you have to switch the pulley from the old unit ? Is it the same alternator as the old unit? ( size , number , identifcation markings ) if not this can be your problem . On some cars, the idler pulley {usually on the belt tensioner) can squeal. If you squirt some WD-40 or similar lubricant on the front of the bearing (engine off), and the noise goes away, it is probably the bearings in the idler pulley. If this is the case, replace the idler pulley, because the noise will come back after the lubricant gets slung out of the bearing.

What causes the fan belt in a 1993 tracker to squeal?

It can be several things, either by themselves, or in combination. 1) the belt has dried up and isn't as grippy any more. This causes it to slip and squeal. There are sprays available to restore grip on belts which might help. 2) the belt has stretched a little, which causes it to slip and squeal. Retension, usually by adjusting the alternator position and it should be OK. 3) one of the auxilliaries(alternator, power steering pump, water pump) is about to seize. If it's harder to rotate the belt will slip and squeal.

How do you grease alternator bearings?

There are two bearings in an alternator. One (the large one) is a standard ball bearing arrangement. The other is pretty small and is a needle bearing type. Neither are really serviceable. You would have to disassemble the alternator to do it and by the time they need it the alternator is generally shot anyway. If you are hearing a squeal from that area it probably is not the alternator anyway. It is probably the belt tensioner next to the alternator and they cannot be repaired either.
