once the car has been boosted and started you can remove the positive battery cable and the car or truck should still run. If it quits that means your alternator needs replacing as it is not producing any electrical current to keep the spark plugs firing. However in doing so you risk damaging the alternator. The alternator requires an outside source of power of at least 5 to 6 volts for it to function properly. I think that a 1964 mustang had a generator. Either one though, if you start the car (of course battery hooked up), then you disconnect the negative then positive battery cables at the terminals, the car will still run until you turn the key off. The belt will turn say the alternator, which will produce the voltage and current you will need. PS. A car that old may have a separate voltage regulator, and current limiter mounted on the firewall. Of course though , your battery will not be charging.
-- Answer -- The battery in a car runs ALL the electrical systems in that car. The alternator only charges the battery. If you run a car without the battery in place you will ruin the alternator. Phil
Of course theres cars with batteries already.
Without a battery to work an automobile then the car would not get anywhere. The battery helps to run the car with moving all the parts that would be required to drive.
The battery is used when the car is running to stabilize the voltage and store energy from the alternator. It is not recommended to run the car with no battery, as this can damage the alternator and the car's electrical system.A dead battery (if you have one) can usually suffice to run the car for a short time, however it may also damage the alternator.
Almost all cars will run with the battery disconnected. They have a generator that will produce enough electricity to keep the vehicle running. ----------------- However, DO NOT RUN THE CAR WITH THE BATTERY DISCONNECTED you run a serious risk of destroying your ECM, the main computer in your car. You can also destroy your electronic dash. Without the battery, there is no load and the alternator is free to overcharge and destroy anything and everything electrical on the car. Yes, it is possible to run the car on alternator only, but it is a very bad idea....DONT DO IT.
Yes - you can run a 1200 watt motor on a car battery - until the energy of the battery is exhausted.
gas or a battery charged car makes a car run.
I recently had a car battery replaced. They last for maybe 5 to 6 years or so but always remember to never run aircondisioning without starting your engine (if you run the aircondisioning on the battery it reduces its life) In addition, running the battery down will shorten it's life.
You can start a car without a battery if you hook up a jump pack or use jumper camples but it could fry your alternator. It is pointless to charge a car without a battery. When you charge the car you are charging the battery.
A 12 Volt deep cycle marine battery.
The car light? YES! Leaving your car light on WILL make your battery run out. Things like leaving your car door open if the light is on because it is open will cause the lgiht to Mae your car battery run out. There is a big difference between shorted out a car battery and running the battery down. Lighting in itself won't short a battery out but will run it down.
Most newer cars will not run at all without a fully charged battery. The alternator alone is not sufficient to handle the operation of all the electronics, let alone headlamps and such. You also need the battery installed just to start the car!!
