there should be a bleeder on each caliper it takes two people for this part ive been told that on newer cars it needs to be turned on remove the reservoir cap on the master cylinder have your partner push the brakes three times and on the third push you use an offset wrench to open the bleeder while the other person is still holding the brake pedal down they should feel it get tight and then go down some. reepeat this several times to make sure all air is out of the line by the way i also like to if the fluid is dark run that out till it becomes clear the dark fluid is old and can become a problem.
the master cylinder is whats bad
Air in system? Remove and bench bleed master cylinder Bleed lines and calipers
could be the master cylinder. or the calipers may be siezed
Bleed the master cylinder.& then rebleed the system.
Check the calipers. If the calipers pistons are extended to far - this could cause the brakes to lock up. The pistons cannot be retracted.
Three main causes, calipers, hoses, and pads.

How do I put on a 2001 ford explorer cylinder? I am in the process of changing my front brakes and the cylinders will not push back in?
Bleeder screw for clutch is at the slave cylinder, on the bell housing of the Transmission. The bleeder for the brakes is on the calipers, and on the backing plate of the rear drum brakes
either the wheels you put on are smaller or the calipers are bigger or even both :P
Not sure on the explorer but I did rear brakes on a Taurus ( 98) & the piston turned in. I used a set of channel locks & turn them counter clock wise. There is a tool for this.
