You probably have excessive clearance in the rod bearings that causes rod knocking when the oil thins from the heat. While the oil is thick it provides a little cushion between the rods and the crankshaft but after it warms up the oil is a little too thin to help out. You can try using thicker oil, (Higher number on the viscosity. If you've been using 20W try 40 or 50) or you can add some engine oil treatment such as STP but generally the best solution is to have the engine rebuilt. Most larger communities have shops that can do a good job on VW engines but make sure it is someone who specializes in VW's, not a general mechanic. If you keep running the engine while the rods are knocking, you will have one of the rods come apart inside the engine and potentially send pieces through the side of the block. Then the engine cannot be rebuilt.
The light is NOT a low oil light. It is a low OIL PRESSURE light. You can drive it until the engine seizes. Of course internal engine damage will start to occur as soon as the light comes on and you have no oil pressure if you continue to drive the vehicle.
The check engine light comes on and stays on when a problem is detected by the self diagnosis system of your vehicle. Generally, a check engine light is lit when there is a problem in the emissions or somthing that is affecting the effectiveness of the emissions.
The oil pressure light will reset on it's own when your oil pressure is good. As long as it is lit you oil pressure is too low and you should stop running the engine as soon as safely possible.
If you are referring to the oil light then you do not reset it. The oil light comes on when it detects low oil pressure. The light will go out when the problem is corrected. Can be the engine is low of oil, does not have sufficient pressure, or the oil pressure sending unit it bad.
The check engine light has to be reset with a OBD scan tool
The light comes on when the car stalls because the engine is not running and the pump therefore is not pumping. The pressure will always be 0 when the engine stalls and the light is directly related to pressure. This is normal, you have no problem, other than the engine stalling.
on most vehicles if you disconnect the battery cables it will reset the check engine light
To remove the check engine light off a 1994 VW Jetta is to first get a proper screw drive to twist the nails around the engine light. Next twist the thing until it you here a clicking sound.
why do check engine light comes on
Your oil light comes on when the OIL PRESSURE is too low ( your engine oil LEVEL may be O.K. )
You need to replace the oil sending unit.
It means you have low oil pressure. Low oil pressure means you will destroy the engine if you keep running it with low pressure.
most likely the alternator is bad.
Some have a safety switch to prevent engine damage that cuts off fuel supply as soon as engine oil pressure drops to an unsafe level
The check gauges light comes on when one of the gauges is out of its safe range. It could be the alternator over or under charging, oil pressure low, or the engine overheating. The check gauges light comes on when one of the gauges is out of its safe range. The easy fix to reset the "check engine" light on the Jetta is to completely unhook the battery for at least 10 minutes. This may possibly be only a temporary fix though if the original problem that caused the light to come on still exists.
It means your engine needs attention.
There is no such thing as an oil pressure light on most cars. Some cars have oil pressure gauges, and all have a "Engine" light or "Check Engine" light with a picutre of either an oil can, or Engine Block The oil pressure warning light usually looks like a little red oil can. The check engine light looks like a little yellow engine.
A reset Engine Service Light comes on when an issue comes up with in the engine. This light can be reset by a tech or by fixing the problem.
No , the CHECK " GAGE " light comes on if the gas gauge is at or near empty , the engine coolant temperature is HIGH , or the engine oil pressure is LOW
no oil or low oil pressure
The tire pressure warning light on a 2008 VW Jetta City , parenthesis enclosing an exclamation point, can be reset once the pressure is restored. Press the set button on the dashboard.
whoa...OIL pressure or High temp causes the RED engine light to illuminate... Don't keep driving it until you know you've got oil pressure, and it's not overheating...! :)
The check engine light is the light shaped like an engine, or the light that states Check Engine (Soon). If this light comes on, it is time to see what the issue is with the engine.
It means the oil pressure is low, which could mean oil has leaked out, which could wreck the engine.
