The oil pump on most American engines is located inside the oil pan. My Grand Prix is a 96 3.1 litre which doesn't appear to be an interchangeable engine with yours so I'm not sure if you have the engine that is mounted sideways in your car or not. I am guessing that you do, which means that you would have to remove the oil pan which on those cars requires removal of the engine from the car because the transmission is located under the engine and prevents an easy removal of the oil pan. I completely removed my engine and replaced it in about eight hours, but it requires a pretty good understanding of how everything is connected so you know how to put it back. It also requires the use of an engine puller which is something that not everyone has. I am not sure how you figured out the oil pump drive seal is bad unless the oil pressure was measured but even low oil pressure could be caused by a lot of things, not just an oil pump. Tom it should be located under the throttle body on the block where the distributor would be if it used one. some of them you have to remove the intake to get to it. if its only under the throttle body then you remove that then there is one bolt that holds it in then you remove it oil the new seal and replace it. $5.95 on your own $360 done by mechanic.
