The question you ask is too involved for a proper answer. You may want to go to a car parts store, or book store, and get a repair manual for your car. They cost about $16.00 Or, go to a Public Library.
Some of the Levers just pull straight out BUT if there is wiper/wash er/CruiseControl U will have 2 fish the wires down inside the steer- ing Collume.B sure the Pivot 4 the Lever is not split-IF so the steering wheel etc has 2 come apart.

∙ 15y agoCompleting this job (replacement of the turn-signal switch) will require partial disassembly of the steering column and some special tools, such as a lock plate remover. In order to get to the turn-signal switch, you must first remove the airbag and airbag rotary cable module. If you do not have the manual with diagrams, instructions, and also enough training to do this safely, you risk detonating the airbag and seriously injuring yourself! In addition, there is a very specific procedure to re-wind the rotary cable when you put everything back together. If you don't follow it, the first hard turn you make will destroy the cable, rendering your airbag system useless. If you are asking this question, you should not attempt this repair without a manual and some qualified help to be sure you do it safely.

Check your turn signal switch (the electrical part, not the lever). I had the same problem on a 1998 Chevrolet Lumina and that's what it turned out to be.
