Could be: Power Steering pump Alternator bearing Water pump Belt tensioner or in drive train
It could be, try shooting it with some wd40 and if it changes pitch or stops it probably is.

The vehicle will sound louder.
A fife is like a small flute or piccolo, but it's louder and shriller because it is narrower.
Well, if you ask me, you have too switch some wires, and TURN UP THE VOLUME!
Stereo interference?
It sounds like the power steering pump to me. my guess would be that you have a bad or loose belt ( sliping ) or you have a pully that is gonna either come flying off or lock up completely....neither is good. also a tight belt can cause the whine if it is tight the whine could be coming from the pulley bearings (alternator etc)
hello it sounds like a bad water pump. I changed my power steering pump thinking that was it but it was the water pump real high pitched whine got louder with rpm.
the humming noise is coming from a bad ground on you stereo
sounds like a bad power steering pump
sound is louder around the alternater
you probably threw a rod out, get it to a mechanic ASAP or you will have more problems.
For me it was the idler pully. A pretty cheap part. $15 I think. And only an hour or so to change. The problem was the bearing in it was shot. It would make a whining sound that got louder/higher pitch as the engine revved higher.
The exhaust system is falling apart probably from rust, have it checked soon, you don't want fumes getting into the car.
when warmed up high pitch noise at idle and it gets louder during acceleration Response to : Can someone actually answer this question? This is my question and the above answer makes no sense.
It may be a tire or something even more serious. You should have it checked by a competent mechanic.
Check the power steering pump for the cause of the noise. I sounds like the pump is causing the whining and is either low on fluid or possibly going bad.
