Are there similarities between Christianity and Islam?

Islam and Christianity have many similarities and there are differences also.

Islam & Christianity are both monotheistic, although some have described Christianity as triunal.

Both believe in Jesus Christ, though he is a prophet in Islam and the son of God in Christianity.

Both are considered to be universal religions which can be accepted by anyone regardless of their race, culture & language.

Both encourage good behaviours and works, service to mankind and to God.

Both believe in the great prophets such as Moses, Abraham, Jacob, Joseph, Noah, etc.

Essentially both discourage violence though both religions have had their history of fanaticism.

Christians don't accept Muhammad as a prophet.

Muslims don't consider St. Paul as a saint.

Muslims follow dietary laws similair to the Jews, but Christians don't necessarily.

Both are Semitic religions meaning they began in the Middle East by Middle Eastern peoples.

Christianity and Islam don't relate.

To a Christian Islam is a false religion. Islam may say it worships the same creator.

But the creator God of The Bible has given His son Jesus Christ as a sacrifice for sin and this is a basic belief of Christianity.

Joh 3:16,17 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.

Also Jesus said "no man comes to the Father except by me". God has not made a different way of salvation for Islam or other 'religions':

In reality, there really is no similarity to best describe the Judeo-Christian beliefs of God to the Muslim Islamic belief.

Judaism and Christianity have the Old Testament in common. Islam believes both OT and NT have been partially corrupted in transmission while the Koran is believed by Muslims to be the final and infallible revelation of God's will.

Though Muslims believe in God which they call Allah, Islam teaches that Allah is all-powerful, sovereign and 'unknowable' while Judaism and Christianity both teach the Creator God to be revealed as merciful, compassionate and knowable (see Jeremiah 9:24 and John 17:3).

The Christian text teaches the God of the Old Testament was the Word and it was He who Abraham and the other patriarchs and prophets worshiped. Islam teaches the Word, aka Jesus 'as one of perhaps 124,000 messengers of prophets Allah has sent and is one of the 25 listed in the Koran - but He is not the redeemer' (Marvin Olasky, "Islam vs. Liberty," World, Sept 10, 2011).

All in all, there are more differences and conflicts between the Judeo-Christian texts and the Muslim text, as well as the Koranic conflicts with secular history.

The prophet of Islam, Muhammad, developed Islam from what was known of Christian and Jewish beliefs, excluding the possibility that Jesus is the son of God.

Islam also contains some beliefs based on pre-Islamic paganism (including belief in jinn) and on Zoroastrianism.
