the firm needs to decide one thing only: is it in its best financial interest? Of course this can be separated into long term and short term best interest. Factors which need to be considered long term: is this a marketing tool?, does it draw people in who buy other products?, Does it help or hinder our long term image or reputation? What is the long run market for this product going to look like? Short run factors for consideration: Is this product profitable, and if it is not is this because of the way our accountants have allocated fixed overhead to the product various product lines?, Is continuing this product the best available use of our resources? Is this product consuming a scarce resource which could be used to make other things? Are our production resources a sunk cost? Profitablility is the most important part of the consideration and can be "played" with. That is, some product lines will look less profitable than others based on the way the accountants have chosen to allocate the overhead. Also, if most of the production materials are sunk then it makes sense to continue producing because there is little differential cost to making additional units.

congress is in control of government revenue under its constitutional responsibilities. house speaker nancy pelosi and majority senate leader harry reid "inherited" a $160 billion deficit in january 2007, then quickly added $1.2 trillion to the deficit three years later. unfortunately, president bush signed these increases into law which were passed by the democratic congress. it is ironic that speaker pelosi stated that "Our new America will provide unlimited opportnity for future generations, not burden them with mountains of debt."

the 9/11 attacks on the united states weakened the economy and the actions of the democratic congress made matters so much worse. the pelosi/reid economic plan completely eliminated the CBO (congressional budget office) projections of a $370 billion surplus null and void. now the projected deficit for the period 2007-2016 is $7.1trillion.

You will need to look at your tax return for 2009. It would have been shown on your return as received or claimed as part of a refund. You can also look back on your bank statement as many people were automatically sent the payment if they were recipients of Social Security or VA benefits. The payment would have been sent to the bank account where your benefit check is sent to every month. If you received it automatically, it would have came in the fall of 2009 or first few months of 2010.

The 2009 $250 "stimulus" is for some social security recipients, nothing to do with being a Vet. The $250 will also be given to veterans who are receiving veterans' disability payments.

The Stock Market is actually a giant Ponzi scheme. If a CEO gets funding from the market he also subjects his or her company to the manipulations of stock value that take place in the market. Many serious business people willl not expose their company to the possibility that its value could tumble 50% or more in one day due to a rumor, so they look elsewhere for funding.
