In the old days, dog sleds were one of the only means of transportation. Today, dog sledding is more of a sport (though it always has been) and dogs are used in races. However, there aren't many roads in some towns of Alaska so dog sleds are used as everyday transportation. The main reason is so that the dogs know their way around even when they aren't racing. It's excellent practice for upcoming competitions!

That is more difficult than it seems. Siberia is the most continental place on Earth. This means there is a large difference between the coldest and the warmest season. In Yakutia, the province in the NE of Siberia (inland) locally has extremes in one and the same place of +38 and -70 C. That is a 108 C difference. oO when we look at the whole year, the difference may not be that big.

Now Siberia is renowned for its cold winters. Are there places in the Northern hemisphere that are colder or comparable? No, there are no such places. Compared to Siberia, the coldest days in the coldest places of Alaska are comparable to the average temperatures in Ojmjakon or Verkhoyansk in january. Near -50 C. Canadian Yukon winters are probably a bit colder than Alaska, but not even close to eastern Siberia.

May be it is nice to add the Canadian prairie cities and look at places at the same lattitude. Here, we see that place further south in China, like Qiqihar in Mantschuria, that are colder in winter and warmer in summer.

The reason for all this is the fact that Russia alone is almost as big as the USA and Canada combined. Or better, the Eurasian continent is almost twice the size of North America. More land, less sea means more climatic extremes

There are two major peninsulas located in Alaska. These peninsulas include Seward Peninsula and Kenai Peninsula. Of these two peninsulas it is Kenai Peninsula that is located farther south.

The Alaskan Highway carries travelers more than 1500 miles. It goes from Dawson Creek, BC, Canada and ends at Delta Junction, AK.

Alaska doesn't border a state because geographically it lies next to Canada and touches the water on all sides in fact it used to be owner by Russia but, the United States bought it from them for 2 cents a square mile.
