Blood

Blood is a bodily fluid consisting of plasma, blood cells, and platelets that is circulated by the heart through the vertebrate vascular system, carrying oxygen and nutrients to and waste materials away from all body tissues. In many species, it also carries hormones and disease-fighting substances. In this category, you will find questions about the blood in your body, including blood types, blood diseases, and the function of blood.

Y do we get blood clots in our blood?

People get blood clots for different reasons. The most common reason why people get blood clots is because there blood is to thick and cannot function right.

What natural foods aid to help blood to clot?

by eating liver,green vegetables,egg yolk,unpolished cereal

What is a reduced hemoglobin level called?

Low red blood cell (RBC) count or low hemoglobin content are both indicators of types of anemia.

With a low RBC count the causes vary, and can include sudden blood loss (as from trauma, including surgery) or an imbalance in the number of red blood cells produced by the bone marrow's reticulocytes versus the number destroyed by hemolysis (natural or disease-induced rupture of red blood cells in the body) or through gradual blood loss (i.e., menstruation in women, or bleeding from a gastric ulcer.)

Low hemoglobin content, indicated by a low hematocrittest result, is often the result of iron deficiency, though some chronic diseases can also cause it.

What dissolves blood?

A solution of NaCl

or common salt in water

Can a woman with type a Rh negative blood have a healthy baby with type b Rh positive blood?

A baby is a person. Soooooo they have attitudes that vary each day. So some days the baby could be "negative" or "mad", but they could also be very happy.

Rh positive is dominate (R gene), Rh negative is recessive (r gene). I mom is Rr and dad is either Rr or rr, then baby could be rr giving Rh negative blood type.

What does black blood in your urine mean?

Unless you have your period (if you are female), you need to see a doctor right away to have blood tests done to see if you are going into liver failure, especially if you are jaundiced (yellowish skin and whites of your eyes). NOTICE: If you have overdosed on acetaminophen (Tylenol) recently, go to your nearest Emergency Department/Casualty Unit right away. Overdosing on Tylenol can kill you.

What foods are high in disaccharides?

All dairy products because they contain lactose which is a disaccharide made of glucose and galactose.

Anything with table sugar in it because that is made of sucrose which is a disaccharide made of glucose and fructose.

Is hemoglobin sugar?

Not exactly, but it is part of the diabetes tests as it shows whether your diabetes is controlled effectively.

Haemoglobin is the red pigment which gives the colour to your blood. It carries oxygen and carbon dioxide inside the red blood cells. Either too much (Polycythemia, Hamochromatosis), too few (anaemias), or genetically defective (Sickle cell anaemia, Thalassaemia) haemoglobin could impair the proper function of the body. That is why haemoglobin tests (MCH, MCHC) are done normally.

Glucose in the blood sticks to haemoglobin. The higher the level of glucose in the blood, the more glucose sticks to the haemoglobins (glycated haemoblogin). If the diabetes is well controlled (less glucose in the blood), the A1c test shows less glycated haemoglobins.

Since red blood cells last for about 120 days (in normal conditions), the tests to see how well the diabetes is controlled, are usually done about this intervals.

Why is it important for red blood cells to have hemoglobin?

Red blood cells carry oxygen, they then take this oxygen to the muscle cells to let the muscles respire, in doing this the muscles cells get more oxygen to work at their full potential. Having more red blood cells may be an advantage in this respect

When is blood transparent?

ITS NEVER TRANSPARENT THATS WHAT I BELIEVE i learnt that in a comic!

What does it mean if you have a high white blood cell count but a low lymphocyte count?

If the White Blood Count is high and you have immature White Blood Cells called Blasts, then it probably means you have ALL; Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. However, if the lymphocytes are low, this can mean anything from Chicken Pox to TB to Measles, Mumps and Rubella. If your Lymphosites count climbs, I'd suggest to see an Oncologist to test for ALL.

Explain the function of hemoglobin?

the hemoglobin contained in a

known quantity of blood is converted into acid heematin by means of hydrochloric

acid. The colour is then compared with a standard tube containing acid haematin

of known strength" (Whitby and Britton, I935). The technique is straightforward

and can be learned in a few minutes. Despite the simplicity of the method, however,

there are numerous sources of error traceable not only to faulty technique but

also to unsatisfactory apparatus. The existence of fallacies became apparent while

making upwards of five hundred estimations of the Hb in connection with a clinical

investigation. The purpose of this article is to make a plea for standardization of

both technique and apparatus, and to try to estimate the importance of the various

sources of error that are encountered. For reference and discussion the standard

method taught to students in this hospital is set out below.

Clean Tube. Brush if necessary.

Is neutrophil dangerous?

No, it's a normal component of human blood.

Is c negative blood type rare?

Wish I knew. I have A Neg blood group, with C Neg and E Neg and I can't find out a thing about what it means. Hopefully this lack of information means that it is so normal it's not worth bothering about.

What happen when MCV and RDW is high in blood test?

The use of the RDW or the red cell distribution width is a measure of how much variation in size there is among the red blood cells in your body. A high or low RDW means nothing on its own; this measure is only used in conjunction with other measures to learn something about anemia. An abnormal RDW without other abnormalities is meaningless. Talk to your health care provider about whether the RDW is a significant finding in your particular situation.

What are B lymphocyte deficiencies?

If there is an abnormality in either the development or function of B lymphocytes, the ability to make antibodies will be impaired. This allows the body to be susceptible to recurrent infections.

Is blood a homogeneous material?

Blood is a heterogeneous mixture because the blood cells are physically separate from the blood plasma. The cells have different properties than the plasma. The cells can be separated from the plasma by centrifuging, which is a physical change.

==========

If it were homogenous, we'd be dead. Human blood is heterogeneous: it's composed of:

  • red blood cells, which carry oxygen,
  • white blood cells, which fight infection,
  • liquid plasma, which carries proteins and minerals in suspension,
  • platelets, which produce clotting when a blood vessel is ruptured or cut.
==========

Human blood is decidedly NOT homogeneous. It is composed of many different components, each with it's own important function: The main components of blood are the plasma (the liquid that everything else floats in), red blood cells (transporting oxygen to and carbon dioxide from cells), white blood cells (fighting infection), and platelets (clotting, repair of injuries). There are many other things that may be found in blood including nutrients, waste products (other than carbon dioxide), antibodies, and hormones. At any given time most of the blood in an individual will have very similar composition other than the obvious differences between arterial blood (going to the cells) and venous blood (coming back from the cells) and differences between blood entering organs like the kidneys and liver and the blood leaving those organs.
Blood is heterogeneous because your blood has many other substances included like plasma, RBC, WBC, haemoglobin, etc and all these substances can be separated through a simple physical method like Plasma Pheresis !!

Thus blood is a Heterogeneous substance as we can also see its different parts maybe under a microscope !! :D and also O2 and CO2 are no uniformly distributed in blood making it heterogeneous !! Hence proved :P

What is packed rbc?

Packed red blood cells (PRBCs), also called "packed cells," are a preparation of red blood cells that are transfused to correct low blood levels. A unit of PRBCs begins as a 450 milliliter volume of whole blood. Platelets and plasma are removed to leave a preparation of 220 milliliters of mostly red blood cells. This step concentrates the red blood cells so that they occupy less space, thus the term "packed." One unit of PRBCs typically will raise the hematocrit by 3-4% and the blood hemoglobin concentration by 1 gm/dl. PRBCs last in refrigeration for up to 42 days, but under the right conditions, they can be frozen for up to a decade.
