When two rescuer catdiopulmonary resuscitaion is performed on an unconscious adult. what does the rescuer at the casualtys head do?

The rescuer at the head performs the rescue breathing and checks the pulse during compressions to confirm they are effective.

Can CPR on an infant cause bruising?

If done correctly, CPR should only cause minor bruising. Longer fingernails will increase the bruising affect.

Anything other than minor bruising would be cause for finding out what happened.

Why do they hit the chest before starting CPR in TV shows?

Old-style CPR used to include a maneuver called the " Pre-Cordial Thump " It was supposed that maybe a shock would restart the heart. The prevailing wisdom today just initiates the full set of compressions and breathing .

Is CPR Recertification an American Heart stakeholder?

Yes, I would consider CPR Recertification an American Heart stakeholder.

Can you use kids pads on adults?

What is the most important step in saving someone's life usually?

In first aid the most important step is calling 999 or 911 (depending on your country). When the ambulance gets there you really should tell them what has happened to your best knowledge. After you have called the ambulance decide between if they are unconscious or not.

If they are conscious treat to their injury's as well as you can. e.g. for bleeding wrap a bandage around it twice. Replace it when blood seeps through.

If they are unconscious then decide if they are breathing. If yes go to the next paragraph if they aren't go to the paragraph after that.

They are breathing. You now need to put them in the recovery position. Put their right hand up as if they were waving. Then put there left hand touching the side of the head. Now lift up their left leg with the kneecap pointing up. Gently pull the leg and the left side of them towards you so that they are on their side. Constantly check them to see if the recover of stop breathing. If they stop breathing roll them over back on their back. Go to the next paragraph

They are not breathing. check their mouth to see if the tongue has got stuck back in their mouth. if it has remove it from the back and pull it forward. Now draw an imaginary line from there nipples across and then one from the chin down. Put your left hand down and then interlock your right hand with it on top. Now kneel over them and push down 30 times. If you have not got any past first aid training then just do chest compressions until either you are to tired to continue, they regain consciousness or the ambulance arrives. If you have had previous first aid training then make a seal with your mouth over there mouth and hold their nose shut. Now do a short breath until the chest rises and repeat 1 more time. Now alternate 30 compressions with 2 breaths.

I would like to point out that this is rough guide and is probably missing some infomation. There is nothing better that you could do then do a first aid course as then you are prepared yourself!!!

Do you stop CPR for 30sec to give epinephrine?

Epinephrine is not given during CPR by the layperson. Paramedics might push epinepherine via IV among other meds during CPR. CPR is not interrupted to push these drugs.

When performing CPR on a baby the position of the head should be?

A neutral inline position or "sniff position," as if the baby lifted his or her head slightly to smell something in the air. A full head-tilt chin-lift, as performed with adults, will cut off the baby's airway. Hold the head in this position while delivering chest compressions and breaths.

Why chest compression is accompanied by artificial ventilation?

The chest compressions pump the blood but artificial respiration forces more oxygen into the blood by increasing the air pressure inside the lungs, even though the rescue breaths do not contain as much oxygen as "unused" air.

Do you need to give CPR to a person who has atrial fibrilation?

No, you would not give CPR to a person with atrial fib. This condition is treated with drugs such as blood thinners or medications that regulate the heart. If however, the person stops breathing, you would then perform CPR.

Does it take 22 seconds to do one cycle of CPR?

No, it does not take 22 seconds to complete one cycle of CPR. A standard cycle of CPR typically consists of 30 chest compressions followed by 2 rescue breaths, which can be performed in about 30 seconds. The exact timing may vary slightly depending on the rescuer's speed and efficiency, but the general guideline is to minimize interruptions to compressions to maintain blood circulation.

During rescue breathing How can you protect yourself and the victim from any risk of cross infection what will you use?

During rescue breathing, you can protect yourself and the victim from the risk of cross-infection by using a barrier device, such as a pocket mask or a bag-valve mask. These devices provide a one-way valve that prevents the exchange of air and fluids between the rescuer and the victim. Additionally, wearing disposable gloves can help minimize contact with bodily fluids. It’s also important to ensure that the victim’s mouth is clear of any obstructions before providing breaths.

How often does the AED ask you to check the patient?

Automated external defibrillators (AEDs) typically prompt users to check the patient after analyzing their heart rhythm, which occurs automatically once the device is turned on and pads are applied. After each analysis, the AED will provide audio and visual instructions, including whether to deliver a shock or to check for responsiveness. Users are generally advised to continue monitoring the patient's condition and follow the AED's prompts throughout the process. The frequency of checks may vary depending on the specific model and situation but generally occurs during each analysis cycle.

What should you do after attaching aed pads to the victim's chest?

You should stand back. The AED should announce that it is going to analyze the heart rhythm an to stand clear. When the AED says this, it is then you responsibility to make sure no one is touching the victim. An easy way to do this it to put your hand up in a stop or stand back signal and say "Stand clear. I'm clear, you're clear, we're all clear." The AED will then proceed in analyzing the heart rhythm.
Turn it on and listen

What is the advantage of using paddles over adhesive pads on an aed?

Using paddles over adhesive pads on an AED allows for more precise control during defibrillation, as paddles can be positioned directly on the chest and pressed down firmly for better contact with the skin. This can be particularly beneficial in cases where the patient's body is wet, or in situations where quick action is needed. Additionally, paddles can be reused and may be more cost-effective in certain settings, such as hospitals, compared to single-use adhesive pads. However, adhesive pads are generally more user-friendly and suitable for laypersons in emergency situations.
