I moved from CA to IN last year and found that the cheapest way was to buy a 24' cargo trailer and tow it with my truck. I guess the next best way would have been to rent a moving truck (U-Haul or the like), but that was about twice the cost...plus I was able to sell the trailer when i arrived, thus making the move for almost nothing. It really does depend on how much stuff you have or need to move.
