Water use of the Colorado River Basin is based on the 1922 Colorado River Compact and the population of the west has shifted since it became the Law of the River. For years, Arizona and California made use of any unused water that came their way until it was a mere trickle when it reached Mexico.

The Compact was based on flawed science which overestimated the river's capacity. It is scheduled for review in 2016 and any change in allotments will surely be tested in the Supreme Court and then challenged by Mexico in International Courts. All of the mountain ranges in Colorado are part of the Rocky Mountain chain. There are numerous mountain ranges including the Front Range which forms the eastern boundary of the mountains. (The ones you can see from Denver and CO. Springs,etc.), the Ten Mile Range, the Mosquito Range, The Elk Mtns., the Wasatch Range, (which are in the central mountain region), The San Juan Range in the southwest and the Never Summer Range up north. There are a few minor ranges I haven't mentioned. The Colorado mountains are the highest uplifted land mass in North America. There are 54 peaks which exceed 14,000 ft. elevation. Colorado also hosts more mountains over 13K ft., 12K ft. and 11K ft. than any other State. If you've never been there and seen the Colorado Rockies, take it from someone who lived there for 20 years above 10,000 ft. they are beautiful beyond words and you should go see them! Colorado has an dry climate. In the summer months (On the Front Range) it can get over 100 degrees, but doesn't feel as hot as a lesser temperature with humidity. It's usually 80-100 degrees in July and August and back down to the 70s in September.

Since Colorado has many different elevations & ecosystems the weather can change dramatically after a short drive. In the mountains, it usually won't get much higher than 85 degrees during the summer and will be much cooler at night.

I'd say the weather is perfect here & I prefer to stay in the mountains.

Very diverse, with different types of plants in the high mountains, valleys and desert side of the mountains. Aspen trees thrive in the mountainous areas, along with many wildflowers such as Columbine. Sage and cactus varieties grow in the desert valleys.
