That trip is an annual pilgrimage of mine for the past 20 plus years and I have never made it with a single one night layover (Halfway Point). On day five we get up late in Oceanside to begin the holiday The retreat from California is a virtual flashback with the exception of New Mexico where we throw in an extra overnight stay in Albuquerque for the Balloon Festival before heading to Colorado to bunker down for the winter. Only the young who are in a rush worry about halfway points. Slow down, relax and enjoy.
