Compare and contrast Lamarck’s and Darwin’s theories of evolution: What are the similarities What are the differences?

Lamrack:

Individuals change due to mutation (born with changes)

Nature favors those best suited to survive and reproduce

Darwin's:

Change happens slowly over many generations.

Common:

Any individual can change responding to environment

Acquired traits can be passed on to offspring

What is primordial goo?

It refers to liquid and chemical mixture from which life on Earth began. Biologists also call it the primordial soup, or the primordial sea.

What would be a good approach to arguing with Darwin's Theory of Evolution?

You did not emphasize if you're arguing "For" or "Against" Darwin's Theory of Evolution. If you're arguing "for", then you have to read the latest developments like Genetics, etc. If you're arguing "Against", then you need more than luck; You need a miracle.

  • To say a miracle would be needed to argue against evolution shows that one has not studied the issue of origins from all viewpoints, and has accepted what is actually an unproven theory as a fact.
Whether you are arguing for or against the Theory of Evolution, you need to read all you can about the viewpoint you are arguing, as well as the opposing viewpoint. You can find information on all sides of the issues concerning how our universe came about and the history of the earth, some that support evolution and some that support creation, intelligent design, and perhaps other theories. You can also look for studies (be careful, though, less-than-honest people can "fix" studies to show anything they want them to show), information that negates or supports things given as "facts," etc. Whatever viewpoint you take, it is important you understand that while evolution has become accepted by many as fact, it is still an unproven theory. Support can be found for other theories as well. Deb See the Related Link for "Creationist" to the bottom for the answer. See the Related Link for "Miracle" to the bottom for the answer.
Law of AbioGenesis - life only comes from life not non-life. This law discovered by Pasteur well over 100 years ago has has no known exception like the law of gravity. Even the simplest unicellular life is incredibly complex and cannot arise from non-living chemicals. According to this law molecules to man evolution cannot even begin. The Fossil Record Darwin acknowledged the many gaps in the fossil record in his day but assumed that these would be filled when more fossils were discovered. But the missing links are still missing. Only around 250,000 fossil types have ever been found less than a quarter of what is on earth today. But evolution requires many intermediate forms as a reptile changes into a bird etc so it would predict many more species in the record. They are just not there except a few rare and doubtful cases. Many species remain unchanged through many millions of years of alleged evolutionary history. This is not what evolution would predict either. Frauds Exposed Most recently peppered moths stuck on trees and Haeckel's false embryo drawings (which incidentally are still presented as fact in the school system in one state in Australia) not to mention Piltdown man and others. True science does not require deliberate fraud to underpin it because the truth will always win out. Information Theory and Modern Genetics No plausible explanation exists as to how all the complex information in living organisms arose by chance. Genetic studies show definite limits to variability eg all the varieties of dogs are still dogs and are interfertile. For evolution to have occurred there must be an increase in information as the instructions for a scale to change into a feather are copied. Recombination does not create new information nor do mutations. First and Second Laws of Thermodynamics Evolution is contrary to both of these and they have no known exception.

Why do many scientists ignore the fact that Darwin's theory is a theory and teach as if it was a scientific law?

The question as stated demonstrates the public's confusion over the use of the term "theory." To many people in the general public, the word "theory" means an unproven statement or an educated guess. Scientists would call this a "hypothesis." Theory, on the other hand, is what scientists pray for. It is a construct that is not guessed, but a formula that organizes existing, observable phenomena, has the ability to integrate new observed phenomena in a way that makes sense of it, and presents hypotheses that can be shown as either accurate or inaccurate over time. The "theory of gravity" is a good example. It is not called that because gravity is an unproven hypothesis, but because it creates a construct that fits the data generated by physics, mathematics, astronomy and other scientific disciplines. The theory of evolution is likewise not a guess or even a hypothesis. It is a construct that fits together and makes sense of data from a variety of inter-related fields in life sciences, including botany, zoology, medicine, genetic research, paleontology, and so forth. "Theory" is not the starting point, it is the highest order of scientific organization of data. Scientists do not lightly give the term theory to anything that does not organize massive amounts of data. The public use of the term has created huge confusion because it comes very close to being the exact opposite of what scientists mean.

The definition of a scientific law is the description of an observed phenomenon. A theory gives an explaination of said law. A theory will never become a law and a law was never a theory. Any scientific law has always been a law whether we knew it or not. Gravity was still there when we were "cavemen". The phenomenon of evolution was going on before there was a theory to explain it, and it continues to go on today. The reason that many scientists accept the theory of evolution as fact is because scientifically, massive evidence suggests that it is very true.

What did Jean Lamarck do?

Lamarck was the first to create a theory of evolution. He pretty much stated that animals changed over time because they INHERITED their new trait that they had to have to survive. This was disproved.

Charles Darwin found that animals changed due to NATURAL SELECTION. Natural selection is the process in which animals with a certain trait key to survival would survive in their environment and produce offspring more often than the ones without the new trait therefore passing it on to the next generation, and the next one.

How did Lamarck pave the way for the work of later biologist?

he sugested that organisms could change during their lifetimesby selectively using or not using various parts of ther bodies. he also suggested that individuals could pass the acquired traits on to their offspring enabling species to change over time...that is how Lamarck paved the way for future biologists

How is process of natural selection involved in evolution?

Evolution means natural change over time. Natural selection means that we humans do not make the environment change. Just let nature take its' course. For millions of years, changes were made naturally that benefited the organism. The genes that it had were passed on. Other organisms were not as fit and their genes died with them.

But we have made changes by inferring; this includes having milk cows that produce more and more milk over the generations. Wild cattle do not have the large udders that dairy cows do. Even pulling weeds makes "unnatural" changes. There are many more examples.

What three things provide that organisms have changed over time?

Fossils

Further evidence is derived from living organisms

Bones

Are all adaptations beneficial?

No, like it was the big teeth of saber toothed tiger that dreaded homo sapiens and they did not rest until all of them were wiped out from the face of the earth - adaptation = death.

Should ORM only be used when the individual has time to plan an operation or evolution?

ORM should only be used when the individual has time to plan an operation or evolution.?

Why do animals evolve?

so they can adapt to their new surroundings and improve their chances to live

What is Lamarckism?

Lamarck give the idea that an organism can pass on characteristics that it acquired during its lifetime to its offspring. Also known as heritability.

What is the single important factor controlling the evolution of a star?

The total mass. That will determine the life cycle of the star, the nature of its death and of the remnants after its death.

What question did both Lamarck and Darwin try to answer with their theories of evolution?

What is the mechanism that causes evolution. Both knew evolution occurred and occurs but did not know how or why. Lamark's " desire to evolve " and " acquired characteristics " failed to explain evolution. Darwin's theory of evolution by natural selection was the better explanation.

Does a rugged mountain terrain have a high or low rate of speciation?

A rugged mountain terrain would have a high rate of speciation because mountain would prevent organisms from interacting; hence, gene flow would stop.

How did looking at fossils help Darwin form his theory of natural selection?

Evolution refers to the process of the collection of genes in variety and in frequency changing from one generation to another by reason of selective factors (i.e. natural selection, artificial selection, sexual selection, etc.). Some misinterpret this to mean that one species always becomes a new species which may happen but generally, the changes that happen are slight and go unnoticed. Overtime though, a timeline of fossils reveals very interesting trends like humans possibly developing a straighter posture. In short, fossils can demonstrate new species forming from old ones, adaptations in response to the environment, or what have you.

What are the three different types of reproductive isolation?

They are Temporal, Behavioral, and Geographic:

  1. Temporal: when organisms reproduce at different times and start reproducing separately.
  2. Behavioral: when organisms behave differently and respond to different behaviors in sexual selection.
  3. Geographic: when organisms are separated by something like a wide river or valley and start living separately.

What is your belief on the origin of man?

The origin of man is from our Creator, the Most High followed by woman. He created him from dust, in His image, and pulled Eve from his side as a suitable companion. They were to be fruitful and multiply to further populate the earth.
