How do you cure a bloated fantail goldfish?
If you only have one fantail, then it should be in at least a 10 to 20 gallon tank alone. The tank should have a filter and either an air wand, or an air stone.
The temperature should be about 75 to 78F, and you should feed your fish only what it can eat in 1 to 2 minutes twice a day.
You will need to have a test kit to test the water, and you should do weekly water changes of at least 50%, and make sure you add water conditioner back per the instructions on the bottle at each water change.
Is my goldfish dying if it lays on it's side?
If it's gills are not moving water anymore, it is dead. If it is shocked, either by a fresh water change or some other shock to it's system, it can lay on its side to rest or take a break. Always remember to let tap water sit in an open bowl or pot for at least 24 hours to let the chlorine in it evaporate before adding it to any tank or else that will cause them harm.
Can a goldfish live over night in a bag?
It should take about 90 minutes to acclimate your fish before removing from the bag. You first need to float the fish in the bag to slowly adjust the water temperature in the bag to the temperature in your tank, then you can start adding bits of your tank water into the bag of water to adjust the PH as there is likely to be difference.
Once this has been done, you can safely remove only the fish from the bag and dump the water from the bag into the sink rather than adding it to your clean tank water.

How do goldfish get mate to reproduce?
If there are males and females present in the same tank and the female is full of eggs, the male will chase her and poke his head against her side & belly to convince her to release eggs. If she does release eggs, he will release what is called milt to attempt to fertilize the eggs.

Can betta fish live any other fish?
No. if so the betta will kill the other fish, even the other fish being a betta. Not true... Goldfish will nibble on their lovely fins but I've seen Beta's get along ok with Cories, also little Neon Tetras. By the way, female bettas can only be together to mate, even after mating the male may kill the female. While bettas can live in harmony with other fish, and be fine in a five gallon fish bowl by themselves, the other fish need to be in a tank with filters and all that other stuff. Answer The recommended size of tank for a Betta is 10 Gallons (nominal). So the answer to your question is no. Your 5 gallon (nominal) tank would be actually holding about 4 gallons of water when it is filled to within 1 inch of the top. Add any more fish and you would be overloading the tank.

How do you identify a male and female goldfish?
There is no sexual dimorphism in Oscars (Astronotus ocellatus) although some amateurs may claim different. (Comparing fins has been touted but that's like comparing hair length in humans) The only two ways to tell are by actually netting and upending the fish to examine its' sexual organs (job for an expert) or watch them spawning and check out the shape of their 'tubes'. The female has a wide tube and is the one that lays the eggs. The male follows after the female and has a pointed tube it does not lay eggs.
