How do you cure a bloated fantail goldfish?

If you only have one fantail, then it should be in at least a 10 to 20 gallon tank alone. The tank should have a filter and either an air wand, or an air stone.

The temperature should be about 75 to 78F, and you should feed your fish only what it can eat in 1 to 2 minutes twice a day.

You will need to have a test kit to test the water, and you should do weekly water changes of at least 50%, and make sure you add water conditioner back per the instructions on the bottle at each water change.

Is my goldfish dying if it lays on it's side?

If it's gills are not moving water anymore, it is dead. If it is shocked, either by a fresh water change or some other shock to it's system, it can lay on its side to rest or take a break. Always remember to let tap water sit in an open bowl or pot for at least 24 hours to let the chlorine in it evaporate before adding it to any tank or else that will cause them harm.

Can a goldfish live over night in a bag?

It should take about 90 minutes to acclimate your fish before removing from the bag. You first need to float the fish in the bag to slowly adjust the water temperature in the bag to the temperature in your tank, then you can start adding bits of your tank water into the bag of water to adjust the PH as there is likely to be difference.
Once this has been done, you can safely remove only the fish from the bag and dump the water from the bag into the sink rather than adding it to your clean tank water.

What is the correct quantity of light does a goldfish need?

According to Wikipedia: "If left in the dark for a period of time, a goldfish will turn almost white. Goldfish have pigment production in response to light, which is almost like our tanning in the sun. Fish have cells called chromatophores that produce pigments which reflects light, and gives coloration. The color of a goldfish is determined by which pigments are in the cells, how many pigments molecules there are, and whether the pigment is grouped inside the cell or is spaced throughout the cytoplasm. So if a goldfish is kept in the dark it will appear lighter in the morning, and over a long period of time will lose its color." Full article:

How do goldfish get mate to reproduce?

If there are males and females present in the same tank and the female is full of eggs, the male will chase her and poke his head against her side & belly to convince her to release eggs. If she does release eggs, he will release what is called milt to attempt to fertilize the eggs.

Goldfish are egg layers and spawn during springtime. One spawning can produce several thousand fry.

Can betta fish live any other fish?

No. if so the betta will kill the other fish, even the other fish being a betta. Not true... Goldfish will nibble on their lovely fins but I've seen Beta's get along ok with Cories, also little Neon Tetras. By the way, female bettas can only be together to mate, even after mating the male may kill the female. While bettas can live in harmony with other fish, and be fine in a five gallon fish bowl by themselves, the other fish need to be in a tank with filters and all that other stuff. Answer The recommended size of tank for a Betta is 10 Gallons (nominal). So the answer to your question is no. Your 5 gallon (nominal) tank would be actually holding about 4 gallons of water when it is filled to within 1 inch of the top. Add any more fish and you would be overloading the tank.
Well they might

How do you identify a male and female goldfish?

There is no sexual dimorphism in Oscars (Astronotus ocellatus) although some amateurs may claim different. (Comparing fins has been touted but that's like comparing hair length in humans) The only two ways to tell are by actually netting and upending the fish to examine its' sexual organs (job for an expert) or watch them spawning and check out the shape of their 'tubes'. The female has a wide tube and is the one that lays the eggs. The male follows after the female and has a pointed tube it does not lay eggs.

How old do you have to be to buy a goldfish alone?

Now, you may find that most pet stores wont sell to people under 18. For the safety of the animals of course. If your under 18 and this is the case, Take an adult with you.

I don't think there's a certain age you have to be.
you might have to be eighteen or with an adult but i don't really know

What eats a goldfish?

Goldfish are omnivores and cannibals so other larger goldfish can be predators to your smaller goldfish. Other predators are carp and koi. None swimming predators can include raccoons or house cats.

Only place goldfish into an aquarium with other similar sized goldfish. By having a deep enough and wide enough outdoor goldfish pond with a few aquatic plants living in it for your goldfish to hide in, will help them avoid becoming prey to those predators.
That all depends upon the size of the goldfish. In most cases the rule is 'if is small enough to fit in a predators mouth then that will eventually happen' It is common for people to feed goldfish to their Oscars.

What temperature should a fish tank be?

That depends entirely on the type of fish that are in the tank. If you have tropical fish, temperatures ranging from 75-82 degrees Fahrenheit is about perfect. Freshwater fish are typically more forgiving of temperature differences than saltwater or oceanic fish tend to be. If you have common gold fish or other non tropical fresh water fish then room temperature or about 64-76 degrees is about perfect.
Between 75 and 80 f

If a fish tank is 48inches long 21 inches tall and 18 inches wide how many gallons of water will it hold?

Making the assumptions that these measurements are in inches, and that the fish tank is a perfect cuboid, the volume of the fish tank is 49 x 19 x 21 = 19,511 cubic inches.

Rounded to two decimal places, this is equal to 70.47 gallons.

Are sucker fish aggressive?

Yes. Several species of aquarium suckerfish can be quite aggressive, mostly as the age, and can grow to be pretty large. The Otocinclus catfish is the most peaceful, and stays small, so is a god choice for a small aquarium. But be careful, they are fragile in unbalanced tanks and must have algae to keep fed.

How many medium sized goldfish can you keep in a ten-gallon tank?

That depends on the size of the goldfish. This useful formula might come in handy:

5 cm fish in 250ml of water

10 cm fish in 500ml of water

and etc.

Answer: 0A goldfish needs a tank that's at least 30 gallons to thrive(plus another 10 gallons for each additional goldfish). This may seem like a lot for just a goldfish, but most goldfish will grow over 6 inches long and have the potential to grow over 10-12 inches. Even if the goldfish is very small it is still best to keep it in a large tank because it will soon grow very large.

hope this helps
I was told by a pet store employee once that goldfish are very dirty fish and 1 per gallon was a good rule of thumb.

Can you put a goldfish in a one gallon bowl?

Nothing. The smallest size that's OK for a fish is 5 gallons and that's only for a betta. Any other fish need much more room. In a one gallon, you can put plants and some snails, but not much more.

What happens when you put a goldfish in a tank with other goldfish?

well, an educated guess would be that the latter would chase the corpse of the dead goldfish around until it realized that the goldfish its chasing is acually really just a dead corpse. then, once this fact was realized, the (alive) goldfish would most likely eat the dead goldfish, and that wouldn't be good now would it? so you should probably, most likely try to maybe keep all of your goldfish alive and swimming, not dead and chasing eachothers dead bodies all around.

Can you keep your goldfish in a outside pond during the winter?

Trout can survive if the temperature is warm enough or the water is deep enough to prevent the water from freezing completely. A mountain trout would be a good choice;however, the same conditions would apply.

Why did your goldfish do a silver poo?

Your poisoned water (Lack of care) is killing/has killed your goldfish. You really must follow the basic rules of sucessfull fishkeeping if you want to keep fish succesfully. The basic rules are . :- 1 inch of fish must have at least 1 gallon of water.(A goldfish is a 10 inch fish and so needs at least 10 gallons of water.) :- Every tank must have a permanently running 'cycled' filter. :- Every tank must have at least 50% of its water replaced every week.

== If it is Algea you should empty the fish tank and put the fish into a bucket. Then you should clean the tank after that i would recommend buying sucker fish and a under gravel filter as i had this problem!! if it is not this i recommend going to a fish store and asking them about it!!!

What does it mean when a goldfish eyes cloud up?

If it's a whitish cloud, the bowl has accumulated too much ammonia. (Which comes from, well, fish poo)

Change out a little less than half the water with clean water at the same temperature, SOON.

How do you treat a pregnant goldfish?

Goldfish are egg laying fish, so they do not get pregnant.

Unless there is a male in your tank, the female either may not release her eggs at all & simply reabsorb them, or if there is a male, and he chases the female to convince her to release her eggs, some of those eggs may become fertilized.

Can sucker fish live in cold water?

That would depend on which kind of "sucker fish" you have. Goldfish are cold water fish that produce large quantities of ammonia, which kills most freshwater algae eaters. The tropical plecostomus, however, has been known to survive in both koi ponds and goldfish tanks.

Do goldfish eat red worms?

Goldfish love worms and they are definitely one of the finest foods you can give them.
They're also partial to mosquito larvae if you can find any in summer. Make sure you wash the worms first though, and if the fish don't eat them remove them quickly otherwise they'll rot and affect the water quality.

Goldfish tail grow back?

Yes. The fins and tails are fully regeritive tissue and should grow back virtually scarless, unless the damage is all the way to the base of the tail. There wouldn't be anything for the tail to regrow from. The damage would be permanent...

When i got my fish we named it forktail. Cuz his tail was divided into to parts!

Now, after a little over a year his tail grew together. So it looks regular. Cool right!?
I discovered that my neon tetra fish grew back its tail after it got bitten by another fish. It didn't grow back automatically. Instead, it took a few weeks. I was surprised, because I didn't know fishes can grow back their tail. Maybe not all fishes have that ability.

How do you tell a female goldfish from a male goldfish?

The easiest way to tell the difference is that the males may get what are called breeding stars on their gill plates during breeding season. The breeding stars look like small white bumps.
This is not always the case though, and sometimes the only way you know is by seeing the female drop eggs, or the male fertilizing the eggs.

Do goldfish molt their scales?

Typically a goldfish will lose scales if it's bumped into something in the tank hard enough to tear scales; take a closer look at your decorations and remove anything with sharp edges.
If there are many scales missing in multiple areas on the body, or you have nothing that could cause the loss in the tank for decorations, then it's possible that the fish has a parasite that you will need to treat.
