What did Hera in Greek mythology have a problem with?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

I'm not entirely sure what you mean by this... just generally? Well for one, her husband cheated on her constantly, and most of her conflicts (granted she started them) were related to her attempting to take revenge of Zeus's mistresses and illegitimate children. One legend says that she rejected her son Hephaestus who then trapped her on a throne (from which only he could release her). More information about what you want to know would be helpful.

Why did Zeus and Hera get in a fight?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

The first encounter between Hera and her husband Zeus, king of all the gods, was in the region of the Hesperides. Hera was not responding to his attempts to seduce her so he resorted to trickery that appealed to Hera's nurturing side. It was winter and Zeus turned himself into a cuckoo that appeared to be frozen from the cold. Hera, feeling sorry for the bird turned to her motherly instincts as she held the bird tightly to her breast to warm it. Zeus then turned himself back into his normal shape and took advantage of the surprised state Hera was in. Unable to fight him off, Hera was raped and then persuaded to marry him to cover her shame.

What does Hera represent?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Hera was Zeus' wife and sister. Hera was the protector of marriage, and the goddess of hearth. She protected marriage, trust, and faithfulness. Hera strives to protect marriages because Zeus was always unfaithful to her. Together they bore a child, Ares, who was the god of war, symbolizing Zeus' and Hera's conflict with trust. The cow represents Hera, along with the peacock. The cow represents the black and white of the cow living beside another in peace (as her marriage) and the peacock symbolizes the beauty of faithfulness and trust.

Why did Juno want revenge on H ercules?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Because she was his stepmother. The following is taken unedited from Wikipedia: Hera, the enemy of Heracles Hera was the stepmother and enemy of Heracles, who was named "Hera-famous"[18] in her honor; Heracles is the hero who, more than even Perseus, Cadmus or Theseus, introduced the Olympian ways in Greece.[19] When Alcmene was pregnant with Heracles, Hera tried to prevent the birth from occurring by tying Alcmene's legs in knots. She was foiled by Galanthis, her servant, who told Hera that she had already delivered the baby. Hera turned her into a weasel. Herakles strangling the snakes sent by Hera, Attic red-figured stamnos, ca. 480–470 BC. From Vulci, Etruria. While Heracles was still an infant, Hera sent two serpents to kill him as he lay in his cot. Heracles throttled a single snake in each hand and was found by his nurse playing with their limp bodies as if they were a child's toys. The anecdote[20] is built upon a representation of the hero gripping a serpent in each hand, precisely as the familiar Minoan snake-handling goddesses had once done. "The picture of a divine child between two serpents may have been long familiar to the Thebans, who worshiped the Cabeiri, although not represented as a first exploit of a hero".[21] One account[22] of the origin of the Milky Way is that Zeus had tricked Hera into nursing the infant Heracles: discovering who he was, she pulled him from her breast, and a spurt of her milk formed the smear across the sky that can be seen to this day. Unlike any Greeks, the Etruscans instead pictured a full-grown bearded Heracles at Hera's breast: this may refer to his adoption by her when he became an Immortal. He had previously wounded her severely in the breast. Some myths state that Hera befriended Heracles for saving her from a giant who tried to rape her, and that she even gave her daughter Hebe as his bride. Whatever myth-making served to account for an archaic representation of Heracles as "Hera's man" it was thought suitable for the builders of the Heraion at Paestum to depict the exploits of Heracles in bas-reliefs.[23]
