What is inside Makkah and Almadina cities?

Makkah: It is the house of Allah and has the Kaaba (a cuboid structure covered with cloth) in the centre where Muslims go around it anticlockwise for pilgrimage all the year around for Um-rah and once every year during Haj. It was built originally by Prophet Abraham and his son Ishmael. It has the Black stone- Hajaar Aswad, which came from Paradise and was originally white but has now turned black from sins of mankind. Before Islam came Kaaba was used to store many Idols and statues which the pagans worshipped.

It has another structure close by which is Moqaam-e Ibrahim, which has the foot prints and stone where Prophet Abraham stood up to build the Kaaba. The rest of the building is an open building for prayers. It is one of the Holiest place in Islam.

Further to the right are the two mountains Mount Safa and Mount Marwah, and again pilgrims have to go around 7 times during the Pilgrimage.

In the basement of the Masjid is the fountain Zam Zam which erupted in the desert near the heels of infant Ishmael, were it was struck by Angel Gabriel when he was crying due to thirst, and Hagar, the wife of the Prophet was running between the two mountains looking for help, and water. This is symbolised in the act of going between the mountains during pilgrimage.

Madina: This is the second Holiest place in Islam. It is the place where the Prophet Mohammad (SAW) lived when he arrived in Madina City after leaving Makkah. He built the the Masjid and used to conduct prayers, preach and meet the people who came to visit him.

It now has the grave of the Prophet where he was buried, along with two of his Companions Hazrat Abu Bakr (RA) and Hazrat Umar (RA) who are laid next to him. The green dome on the building is where the Prophet is buried. The rest of the building is used for daily prayers.

Next to the Masjid is the graveyard called Jannat ul Baqi, where the Prophets, family and companions are buried. It had individual tombs but this was demolished by the Saudi Goverment. Muslims who go for Pilgrimage all come here to pay respects and salam to the Prophet, his family and his Companions.

Answer 2

ISLAM: the way of life signified by "willing and loving obedience (submission) to the One and Only God" of Abraham.

It is the final way of life revealed for Mankind. The Bible speaks about the final Prophet coming from Arabia (throughout Isaiah). Muhammad brought "Islam", submission to the One God - which was the same creed taught by all true Prophets - including Jesus - in it's final, completed form.

Islam: the religion of all the Prophets of God.

Are Sunni and Shiite Muslims the same?

Answer 1

No, they are not at war. Iran and Pakistan are Muslim brother countries. Many of the Shiites are living in Pakistan and many other Muslim countries. The basic beliefs of both the sects are the same. Why should they be at war?

Answer 2

The question is posed makes an implicit assumption about the nature of Middle Eastern conflict which is incorrect. There is not a war between all Sunnis or a group representing all Sunnis and Shiites or a group representing all Shiites. Struggles between Sunnis and Shiites, which have sometimes broken out into actual war (such as the Lebanese Civil War) are localized national conflicts. People divide along religious lines for no other reason than that it works as a good ethnic-identifier. This is no different than the Catholic-Protestant conflict in Ireland or the Jugoslav Wars between Catholic Croats, Orthodox Serbs, and Muslim Bosniaks.

Are Muslim children required to perform 5 daily prayers?

Prophet Muhammad ( peace and blessings be upon him ) said in a hadith that children should be taught how to pray when they reach 7 years of age , and that parents should punish them for missing prayers after they reach 10 years.

and this is to train them so that they can commit to praying after they reach puberty because prayer is obligatory upon a person after they reach puberty. and Allah doesn't hold you accountable for missing prayers before puberty.

Where is Islam important?

Can planes fly over the kaaba?

Presumably, the Saudi authorities are afraid the plane would drop something on it. A bomb is the first thing that comes to mind, but it could be anti-Islamic leaflets, or something ritually impure, or just plain disgusting. The West has much the same concerns about the White House, Camp David, a whole bunch of military installations and just about anything else someone in a high position thought might be someone's target.

This sensitivity about one's airspace isn't limited to governments, either; the singer Barbara Streisand tried (unsuccessfully) to stop the Google mappers from overflying her house.

The Muslims may be a little more paranoid than most about protecting their special places, or they may be reacting to the events in history. The whole Mecca-Medina complex is taboo to non-Muslims since a band of them broke in and smashed the Holy Stone in the wall of the Kaaba (It was wired back together - more or less - with silver). True, nobody's molested it for several centuries, but dissident Muslims have occupied the mosque more recently, so they're just keeping their guard up.

Which religion combines practices of Buddhism and Islam?

There is not much in common between Buddhism (no soul, no god) and Islam (soul, god) so probably most religions would not take practices from both.

However, Unitarian Universalists promote a free and responsible search for truth and meaning and encourage learning about and respecting the religious beliefs and practices of others.

Also, the Bahá'í Faith emerged from an Islamic context but also recognizes the Buddha as one of the messengers of God. They believe that all world religions are in essence stages in the ongoing revelation of the one religion.

What did early followers of Judaism Christianity and Islam all have in common?

Answer 1

Salam Alaykom

The prophets who started these religions all had 1 thing in common: They were Muslim.

After the holy books from the other two became corrupted, Allah-swt- sent prophet Muhammed-pbuh- to revive true Islam mostly through the Quran.

From 1,300+ years ago to this day, the Quran remains uncorrupted. (MashaAllah)

Answer 2

There is really not much in common between the early followers of Judaism, Christianity and Islam since the the early followers of all three, as defined by the the codification of the religion all started in very different places.

Judaism was first defined by a wandering tribe of people who were beginning to settle and cultivate a new piece of land. They became vigorous defenders of that land when necessary, but were primarily farmers. Their United Kingdom (the Davidic Kingdom), was a regional secondary power at its height before breaking up and becoming vassals or occupied by larger powers.

Christianity was born in a time of persecution and repression of non-pagan faiths in the Roman Empire. The early history of Christendom was defined by a profound statelessness and fear of being found to be a Christian. Major Christian cities are dotted with underground catacombs where Christians lived to avoid this persecution. This need to continue hiding created numerous heterodoxical Churchs as communication between all Christians was minimal. When Emperor Constantine converted to Christianity in 314 C.E. a paradigm shift occurred. Christians were able to organize and attach themselves to the State Structure, which Christianity then used to bolster its own power and regional influence. It also began state-supported proselytization and expansion.

Islam was born to Arab tribal merchant families who were more prone to warfare than most sedentary tribes and plagued with disunity. Islam served to unite the Arab tribes (after much conflict) under one banner. Arabia had been, for much of history, up to that point, undesirable barbarian territory and when the Arabs were actually united under one banner, it took the world by surprise. Since Islam was the foundation of the new Arab regime, Islam enjoyed a native state structure and theocratic power. The Arabs were also able, in a very short period of time, to conquer vast swathes of territory and convert large numbers of people in that period.

Can you explain why for Muslims turning from Jerusalem and facing Mecca is called a symbolic break with the past?

It was, in fact, not a break from the past. Jerusalem is still a sacred city for the Muslims. Islam is the continuation of Judaism and Christianity. The Muslims must believe in all the Prophets (May peace be upon them all). It was the secret wish of the Holy Prophet Hazrat Muhammad SAW that the House of Almighty Allah, built by Hazrat Abraham AS should become the Ka'abah for the Muslims. His wish was granted by Almighty Allah.
