What are the indications for painful hardware injection?
I will be having painful hardware injections in the next week. My indications are pain in the immediate area where the hardware (screws) are. I had spinal fusion at L5/S1 in 1999 and then 2 revision fusions in June 2008. As it was explained to me, with local anesthetic, they will inject some kind of anesthetic directly on the screw heads. If there is relief, odds are the hardware is causing the pain and must come out. They only do local as they want you to tell them how you feel immediately after the injections. They say it is not painful

Can trazodone cause muscle and joint pain?
I cannot be TOTALLY certain; but, I am greatly inclined to believe that my daily use of 300-450mgs of Trazodone is causing me to have SEVERE muscular pain in my lower and upper back and in the hip and buttock muscles. Of course, each specialist who I have seen and my primary doctor and ER doctors have said that it could not be the cause.
What I have noticed is that if I use as much as 450mgs per day, the next day I am in much more pain - much, much, much more pain.
I did have an orthopedist tell me that the pain that I have could, possibly, be due to the medications that I take. I take only one other medication: Klonopin (2mgs per day).
I have read that Trazodone, absolutely, can cause muscle pain and stiffness.
As for me, I am going to start a taper and to taper 12.5 to 25mgs every two weeks. I have read that one can taper much faster, as in cutting 50mgs every three days. I am not brave enough to do this as, in as much that Trazodone seemingly causes my muscle pain, ironically it also seems to give me some relief from back pain.
Hope this helps
Gabapentin (generic) or Neurontin (brand name) is an anti-seizure medication. However, during human testing, some test subjects were persons who had Epilepsy but also Diabetes who had neuropathy -- nerve pain in the feet and legs that can cause numbness, burning, throbbing, and weird pain symptoms like pins and needle sensations. Diabetics reported a lessening of their neuropathy pain. As non-diabetic patients reported nerve pain after injury, accidents, trauma, surgery, or chemotherapy, doctors began treating this kind of pain with Neurontin / Gabapentin and found that most people tolerated it well at higher than usual doses. Some people take 2, 500 mg per day with few side effects. So although Gabapentin was originally made to prevent seizures, it is now more widely used to treat specific kinds of 'nerve' pain.

An allergy would be a reaction that causes swelling of the throat and/or tongue and difficulty breathing. If this happens go to the ER immediately.

Most vaccines are quick and painless. It is never a good idea to use an over the counter remedy to numb the area without consulting your doctor/nurse first. If you do have an adverse reaction to the vaccine, a numbing cream may prevent you from realising this and create even bigger problems.

Could angioedema be caused by abdominal pains?
Angioedema may depending on it's cause be accompanied by several symptoms (probably also what you describe), yet abdominal pains in themselves are not known for causing angioedema.
First I would make sure your symptoms fit to angioedema, a self-limited, localized swelling of your skin or the tissue of the mucosa.
In angioedema you have a loss of vascular integrity, which allows fluid to move into the interstitial tissues (inflammatory mediators).
Angioedemas have several different causes and are associated with allergic reactions, can also be drug-induced (NSAIDs, ACE inhibitors, fibrinolytic agents) and also are sometimes hereditary (C1 inhibitor deficiency).
If you need a diagnosis I would consult a physician. Good luck to you.
