In fact, shrimp and prawns are closely related. Let's start with the similarities. Both are decapod crustaceans. That means they have exoskeletons and 10 legs. Also, shrimp and prawns are in different suborders. Prawns are in the suborder Dendobranchiata, while shrimp are in suborder Pleocyemata. The main difference between these two suborders is gill structure. Shrimp have branching gills, while prawns have lamellar gills (a plate-like structure). The other features that distinguish the difference are that the front pincers of shrimp are usually the largest, and, generally, prawns have bigger second pincers. Prawns also have longer legs than shrimp.
Actually Size has nothing to do with it. Shrimp can be larger than Prawns. Most think Prawns are always bigger. Fripilot has a very good accurate description.
One thing I would add is that Prawns tend to be farmed in Asia. Just my opinion, to be Green, Buy what is close to you. In the US, that tends to be Shrimp. In the UK and Europe, I wouldn't know, but I would guess Prawns. Try to buy Any food that is farmed and grown as local as possible. Save the Planet.

According to James Oliver Cury a EpicuriousContributor (Food website).top chefs and most people tend to remove them for various reasons: it looks unappetizing-it's the digestive system after all, removing the vein gets rid the grittiness which is not nice felt between the teeth, and when it come down to it - it is waste "poo" as James stated.
On the other hand, some people however, will say well shrimps only eat what's in the sea, the sea is full of food. Indeed, if cooked well, people in some Asian cultures eat the head and eyes too.
In the end it is reported on food websites that no harm can come from eating shrimps if they haven't been deveined.

Lobsters are born from eggs.
"For most females, the eggs will be laid the year after mating. The eggs are fertilized outside the female when the eggs are laid. After they're laid, the eggs remain attached under the tail, on the pleopods, by a kind of sticky substance. The female then keeps her tail folded up under her and carries her eggs for almost a year (between 9 and 12 months). Therefore, females mate approximately once every two years. A female can lay a few thousand eggs when she is young and several tens of thousands of eggs when she is older."
